1. Bus stop ad that smells of baked potatoes

Imagine waiting for a bus with scent of baking food, spreading about in the air all around you! That is what I call smart advertising. The ‘mccain ready baked jackets’ outdoor campaign brings an interactive, multisensory display to bus shelters throughout the UK.

2. Starry night interactive animation

Greek artist and electrical engineer, Petros Vrellis, has created an interactive animation of Vincent van Gogh’s painting ‘The Starry Night’. Left alone, the visualization sends the paint daubs of the saint-rémy night sky into swirling patterns of motion, governed by the mathematics of particle dynamics. A touch interface allows viewers to deform the image, altering both the particle flow and the sound. when not touched, the visualization will return to its natural state.

3. Creative sweatshop: jelly + light

“Light & Jelly” is series of lamps cast in jelly by Le Creative Sweatshop and then photographed by Fabrice Fouillet. The results of combining this common household food with differing light sources are very colorful and look stunning.

4. Reconfigured cabinet cards

We can thank Alex Gross for turning these stiff cabinet cards from the Victorian era with those unfortunate people with constipated face expressions into lively characters that appear like they have just strung out of some Marvel’s comic book. He takes poor dead bastards who kicked it 100+ years ago and repaints them as pop icons. The result is marvelous!

5. Blind passengers

German designers Julian Appelius and Karen Olze have created ‘Blind passangers’. The screen series consists of six sublimations on polyester to be affixed to the inside of the car window. Figure options include Botticelli’s muse, Simonetta Vespucci, the bust of Nefertiti, Vermeer’s Girl with the pearl earring, Arcimboldo’ ‘Spring’ or two cherubs by Raffael, all depicted at 43 x 36 cm. The blind functions as a shade the true passenger of the vehicle while simultaneously displaying a famous art historical image to passers-by.

6. Lid sid by Luka Or

Israeli designer Luka Or has created the ‘Lid Sid’ for Israeli company Monkey Business. The pot and pan accessory offers one effective way to let off some steam in the kitchen, literally. Sid is a small figure which hangs over the edge of a pot, propping its lid open to let out some excess heat while food is simmering.

7. Chocolate bar smartphone

This year for the Valentine’s Day in Japan, you’ll be able to honor the tradition of buying chocolate to your loved one, but this time, instead of the regular chocolate, you will be able to buy a chocolate bar shaped smart phone, designed by Tadaaki Wakamatsu, that will be released and available for sale on February 14th.

You may love her or hate her, but you can’t ignore her. And if it would make you feel any better look at others and especially at these days popstars. They are all under enormous impact of Lady Gaga‘s weird, bizarre and berserk style. And if any of them tried to deny it, just look at the images below, they speak for themselves. It’s irrefutable fact, sad but still non of the less real, Gaga made a revolution in the musical industry, not as much with her music, but with her looks and ridiculous style.

Now, I’m aware how this might sound, but I have to say, some of these popstars look actually better. For Example Christina Aguilera. She looked at first like a cheap porn star, while on the other hand, she now looks like a much more expensive one. Sadly, Rihanna just moved from sweet attractive look to S&M bitch, and Katy Perry simply can’t pull it off. Her boyfriend is doing it much better. Lady Gaga changed it all!

New and Even Weirder Kobi Levi’s Shoes

Kobi Levi has built reputation of a quite eccentric shoe designer. For some reason he thinks of a classic shoes as dull and unaesthetic and he tries to create a new modern shoe that will have a completely different form and shape. He went so far in changing the shape of a shoe that it became unwearable. He combined the elements of nature like flowers, birds and animals, but also some from the urban life – like a gum stuck on the shoe that turned into a heel. His shoes are definitely something different, new and interesting, but I have to admit I would never wear anything like this in public. What do you think?

Here are some really cool and weird houses. Some are probably photoshopped, but some look real and I would even enjoy spending a day or two in a house like the one with the piano for example.

The Mullet A.K.A. ape drape, beaver paddle, bi-level, Camaro cut, business in the front party in the back, Canadian passport, al-camino, hockey hair, Kentucky waterfall, Missouri compromise, mudflap, neck warmer, ranchero, shlong (short+long), achy-breaky-big-mistakey, soccer rocker, squirrel pelt, Tennessee tophat, and a yep-nope, call it whatever you like, but IT became popular somewhere around 80s’ and even then it was terrible. Even Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing barely manages to pull that look off and not look completely ridiculous. But, apparently, there are people who find this extremely attractive. Meet them!

Dandies from Congo

Congolese capital Brazzaville has a subculture known as Sapeurs. This is a society of elegant people. Men of all ages dress up in designer clothes to look like French colonialists from the 50’s and 60’s even if they really can’t afford stylish outfit. A lot of people in Congo are starving and even get into debt in order to create their wardrobe.

The fashion of Congolese dandies hasn’t changed in the last 50 years. Andre Grenard Matsoua is still the “God” of the SAPE movement. He became the first Congolese who returned from Paris in 1922 dressed like a French “Monsieur”. His portraits can be found in many apartments throughout the cities of the Congo.

Most of local dandies don’t only elegantly dress but also have “European” nicknames, such as Benoit “Christian Dior”, Pierre “Rolex”, Serge “Mercedes”, etc.

To create a “dandy” wardrobe the members of the SAPE have to spend a minimum of $300, or 5-months average salary in Brazzaville. Many men who wish to dress like a “Frenchman” borrow money from the banks or starve saving $10-$15 each month.

Italian photographer Daniele Tamagni who documented the life of Congolese dandies says that only the Europeans find such a combination of fashion and poverty strange. The Congolese think different. For them wearing nice clothes is feeding the soul.

Have a look at these amazing photos of the famous Frank Lloyd Wright house over the waterfall. Fallingwater has provided enjoyment to many people over the years; as a stimulating weekend retreat for the Kaufmann family and their friends, as a source of pride to the architect and his associates, and now – cared for by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy – as an exceptional experience for visitors from near and far.

When Wright came to the site he appreciated the powerful sound of the falls, the vitality of the young forest, the dramatic rock ledges and boulders; these were elements to be interwoven with the serenely soaring spaces of his structure. But Wright’s insight penetrated more deeply. He understood that people were creatures of nature, hence an architecture which conformed to nature would conform to what was basic in people.

For example, although all of Fallingwater is opened by broad bands of windows, people inside are sheltered as in a deep cave, secure in the sense of hill behind them. Their attention is directed toward the outside by low ceilings; no lordly hall sets the tone but, instead, the luminous textures of the woodland, rhythmically en-framed. The materials of the structure blend with the colorings of rocks and trees, while occasional accents are provided by bright furnishings, like wildflowers or birds outside. The paths within the house, stairs and passages, meander without formality or urgency, and the house hardly has a main entrance; there are many ways in and out. Sociability and privacy are both available, as are the comforts of home and the adventures of the seasons. So people are cosseted in to relaxing, into exploring the enjoyment of a life refreshed in nature. Visitors, too, in due measure experience Wright’s architecture as an expansion of living.

Fallingwater opened a new chapter in American architecture, and is perhaps rightly considered Wright’s greatest work, for he was first and foremost an architect of houses. In its careful yet startling integration of stone walls anchored to the bedrock and modern reinforced concrete terraces hovering in space, Connors states that Fallingwater may be understood as ‘one of the great critiques of the modern movement in architecture, and simultaneously one of its masterpieces’. Yet we cannot help feeling that there is more to this design than even that; this is an architecture that seizes our imagination, letting us see space and habitation in ways that seem new, but which we simultaneously feel to be ancient, somehow fundamental to our human nature

Here’s interesting set of images dealing with the “now and then” topic. It is really great watching these photos and comparing what some things used to look like and how they look now. It becomes obvious how much our taste and fashion have changed through time. Some things look much better now, and others actually looked better before. I don’t know if it is just nostalgia or did people really had better taste earlier. If you ask me actors and singers were definitely better before. I even feel bad for comparing Buddie Holy with Lady Gaga and Great Blues with Snoop Dogg, because they are hardly in the same category. But just have a look at this collection and then you be the judge if we fixed or spoiled some things.

Real bikers

A real biker doesn’t have a whole lot of things that say Harley Davidson on them, except his motorcycle. He doesn’t have to buy a pin at the biker rally that says, “I rode mine” cause he has nothing to prove to anyone with pins and do dads. When he gets there, he doesn’t check in at the motel, but likely the campground. His rain gear isn’t gortex or some fancy man made water shedding material, it’s leather, cause cows don’t leak.

He can tell the difference between a June bug and a Dragonfly, just by the taste. He doesn’t know what the inside of the service department of the dealership looks like, cause nobody works on his bike but him. And he knows the guy at the parts counter by first name, and probably his wife, kids and the rest. This is because they speak the same language and share the same passion.

He lives by a set of rules polite society doesn’t understand, and therefore fears. In his world, respect gets respect in return, and disrespect…is not advised. He doesn’t ride when the sun is out, he rides in the pouring rain, and the cold, and it doesn’t seem to bother him, cause any day riding is better than any day working.

He probably has tattoos, that you don’t understand, that’s alright, they are his and he doesn’t care that you don’t understand.

When you’re broken down on the side of the road, looking pitiful next to your broke down bike, he is the one that stops, and gets you running, or, if it is seriously broken, doesn’t leave you until help has arrived to get you and your scoot off the road, cause, that’s just how he rolls. He has been there, and appreciated the help once upon a time himself, and learned to pass it forward.

When you ride past him on your bike in the opposite direction and wave, like all the other RUBS (rich urban bikers), it is likely he won’t. It’s not personal, he just does’t know you. Oh, and yeah, before I forget, your not his “bro”. One things that bothers a biker more is some guy on a bike, usually at some rally or gas station somewhere with the, “hey bro” routine. His “bros” or brothers are guys he has either ridden with for years, shared road and hard times and blood with, or, are actually guys in the same club. Just because you have a bike, and he has a bike, doesn’t make you “bros”.

And, forget the gray hair, likely he is not the one you wanna mess with. To quote a real famous old biker, “treat me good, I’ll treat you better, treat me bad, I’ll treat you worse” is something a whole lot of bikers live by. Respecting him will get him respecting you, disrespecting him will probably mean a co pay on your dental plan is due.

He loves to laugh, he loves to party, and he will probably have a few strings of beads in his saddlebag for the wet t-shirt contest.

Are you offended yet? Scared off? Don’t be. It’s our world, it is kind of sealed off and hidden from you, unless you go searching it out. If you find it, watch, listen, and learn. It is hard to learn while your lips are flapping trying to impress people, and likely he is not going to be impressed, so, listen, learn, observe. Ask questions, everyone learned at some point, and there are no stupid questions. If the answer is, “I can’t talk about that” accept it and move on to another topic.

What is a biker? He is a guy that lives by a different code than most polite society will ever understand or accept. Or, as we are fond of saying. If I had to explain it to you, you probably wouldn’t understand.

He is used to profiling. While the rest of the world just started howling about how bad it is to profile certain people for this or that, it has been happening to him for decades, based only on how he looks, or perhaps the cut he is wearing. You will never hear him scream about his civil rights being violated. It’s just part of the territory and you get used to it.

Just like there is a “pirate’s code” there is also the code of the road, and he lives by it. Of course, it’s more of just a guideline.

What is a biker? Walk up to one and ask. We don’t eat on our own, we are approachable, we have families and jobs and mortgages and rent and bills just like everyone else. We are just cut from a different cloth than most.

Say hi sometime, find out, we don’t bite…unless asked.

You’re looking at the house of Vladimir Bryntsalov, the owner of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in Russia. He is apparently very wealthy and rich, but sadly it seems he lacks some good taste. Just have a look at these images showing the interior of his house, and you’ll see how tacky it is. This proves that it’s not enough to have money and you’ll get amazingly decorated house as well. I wonder why didn’t he hire an interior decorator.

Vivienne Westwood, British fashion designer and businesswoman, is largely responsible for bringing modern punk and new wave into fashion mainstream. Some say it lost its point by becoming mainstream and that it is now only a bunch of safety pins, razor blades, bicycle or lavatory chains on clothing and spiked dog collars for jewelery. Here are some of her shoes notorious for making people fall while wearing them. (We all remember supermodel Naomi Campbell falling down during a Westwood fashion show in Paris in 1994). In my opinion, these shoes are extremely ugly, uncomfortable and they make people fall down! The question is why do people still buy these extremely expensive shoes.

The strangest hairdresses

Your hair is talking about your personality. Therefor many people are trying to have the original, unusual and by all means unique head dress. But, unfortunately many get lost on that journey. They seem to try too hard to have something that no one has and at the end their special haircut turns out to look something like these weird bird nests on the images below.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a super-ultra-unique-original-and-crazy-helicopter-shaped-head-dress! Sounds scabrous? Well, that’s because it looks exactly like that! I really hope this is a photos from the funniest hair style competition and not someones real haircut.

What do you think about the octopus style? I wouldn’t recommend this one if you’re going to the theater or the movies, because people might wanna see something besides this intriguing sea specie.

Now, this guy definitely solved his dilemma if he should put a heat on or not for good. This way he has it both, a fancy and stylish haircut and a unique heat at the same time.

This model is perfect for celebrations of Chinese New Year!

Oh, I always loved poodles, they have such a nice hair styles. Off course I would never make something like that on my own head, but you know me, I’m so old-fashioned and never wanna try out new and exciting things!
