Cool Facts and the Most Ridiculous Hangover Cures

Tonight is the New Years Eve, and I suppose everybody will have at least one or two drinks. Well, for those of us who usually tend to overindulge in alcohol, the next day will start with an old familiar feeling of headache, dizziness, dry mouth and nausea, better known as hangover. Well, this year, I decided to do a little research and find out what are the best cures for hangover, but I only came across some ridiculous and absurd remedies which include rather bizarre ingredients like pickled sheep eyeballs, rabbit poop, etc. Therefor, I came to a conclusion, there isn’t really much you can do, once you find yourself in this poor condition. We can only try to be moderate in our drinking (yeah, like that ever happens) and make fun of all these ridiculous hangover cures from around the world.

First of all, lets look at some facts:

1. A hangover describes the sum of unpleasant physiological effects following heavy consumption of a drug, most notably alcoholic beverages.
The Hangover is the second solo album by former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke, released in 1997.
Guns N’ Roses was a great band before Axl Rose went fucking crazy.
Fact #3 may be slightly off track.

What Causes a Hangover?

The ethanol contained in alcoholic beverages has a dehydrating effect which causes headaches, dry mouth and tiredness. This effect can be lessened by drinking plenty of water before and throughout your night of drinking. Your liver breaks this ethanol down and the resulting chemical reactions impair the liver’s ability to supply glucose to tissues, in particular to the brain. Glucose is responsible for the brain’s energy and the lack thereof results in fatigue, weakness, moodiness and decreased attention.

Ridiculous Hangover Remedies

Each respectable culture that enjoys drinking to excess has its own hangover cure.

1. Lemon in the Armpits

Apparently some Puerto Ricans (and other citrusy fresh people) swear by this method. While I’ve read a few different opinions, the general belief is that you need to rub a slice of lemon in the armpit of your drinking arm before you start boozing. I’m not sure if it works, but at least you’ll smell fresh and fruity while drinking till oblivion.

2. Squeezing Cucumbers in Russian Sauna

Since Russians are one of the world’s biggest drinkers, it’s worth looking into their ways of getting rid of the hangover. Well, they happen to steam out their toxins in a sauna of course. Also, they say you need to drink the juice squeezed from a cucumber. I don’t know how they manage to do this in sauna!

3. Irish Burial

The Irish cure? Well they’re said “to bury the ailing person in moist river sand.” It’s not exactly clear if they keep the head above ground, or if this is simply the easiest way to get rid of the weakest drinkers. (Please, keep in mind that we deliberately looked for the least reliable sources)

4. Sicilian Sausage

I was having second thought whether to put this one in the list, but I guess the people who instituted organized crime probably know something about alcohol. Apparently, Sicilians believe that all you have to do after a wild night of drinking is eat a dried bull’s penis. Yep, that’s it. Plain and simple.

5. Jog ‘n’ Lick

They say Native Americans would run around in the morning to get sweaty after a hard night on the village. Next step? They would then lick their sweat and spit it out, to get rid of the ‘poison’. (If you weren’t puking till now, you’ll probably start.)

6. Voodoo

Is there anything more reliable than voodoo? This is usually my first thought the morning after heavy drinking, because magic trumps logic every time. Haitian voodoo people are said to recommend sticking 13 black pins in the cork of the offending bottle. It makes prefect sense.

7. Bloody Mongolian Mary

The hangover cure for heavy drinkers in outer Mongolia is “a pair of pickled sheep’s eyes in tomato juice.” Sounds probably as disgusting as it tastes. I wonder if they put them on a stirring stick like olives and serve aside with drinks.

8. 2 Cowboys 1 Cup

Cowboys in the Wild West, back in the old days used to drink a cup of fresh tea the morning after binge. Oh? That actually sounds nice… But, wait! Do you know what the secret ingredient was? It were rabbit droppings! Apparently, cowboys swore by drinking a cup of rabbit poo tea.

Lets Recap:

Most of the people drink to the excess and tomorrow feel like crap, but they do it anyway.
It is scientifically proven that it is impossible to avoid feeling like this and that there is really little you can to to help yourself, once you’re in this miserable state.
Still, people around the world keep eating awful stuff and doing ridiculous things.
Alcohol causes you to make poor decisions, therefore…

8 Brilliant Outfits for Avoiding Talking to People in the Street

I hate talking to people in the street. Don’t you just hate that forced courtesy, too? Truth be told, I’m not that big on human contact and interactions at all, but I simply hate all that fake affection when I have to pretend I’m glad to see someone, when that couldn’t possibly be further from the truth. And what’s with those staged conversations when you have to ask the person you’ve just met how he/she is doing, and then stand there and pretend you’re listening to their never ending narrative about their boring and slow lives. And then, when they finally finish showing off, the torture is not over yet, because then they ask you about your life, what your doing, what you’ve achieved, how much you’re earning, etc. and all that just to make you feel bad about yourself.

There is no escape from this. No matter what you say, no matter how carefully you plan your excuse, you’ll end up being rude, childish, behaving improper, etc. Well, all that is over! Here are some easy ways for avoiding these awkward and bothersome human contacts. You should simply pick up one of these 8 brilliant outfits and wear it every time you go out, and I guarantee you, no one will ever stop to talk to you in the street.

1. Cape

We consulted the king of awkward social interactions himself, Mr. Larry David. If there is a man that hates making pointless casual small talk, then that is this guy! You can watch short insert from the Seinfeld here and you’ll see how the cape works like a magic charm.

2. This Cap-like Thingy

I can’t really say for sure what the hell is this thing supposed to be, probably some crap for the sport fans, but I can tell you it sure as hell looks moronic enough to keep everybody away from talking to you, except the guys wearing the same thing.

3. Diving Suit

Yeah, I know it’s a little bit uncomfortable to walk about in a diving suit, but you have to work hard so you could latter enjoy your conversation-free time. It would be perfect if you could manage to find an antique diving suit, like this one:

but if not, a regular, modern one will do just fine, but you should then without fail dress up your dog or cat, or both if you have and take them out for a stroll. I guarantee, there will be people crossing to the other side of the street to avoid talking to you.

Since we’re talking about prejudice, let’s mention another one! We know there are many people who might find this offensive, but that’s the whole point of article, isn’t it? You could have picked up from the title, that this article is not meant for the friendly, cheerful and open-minded people, but for egocentric jerks that hate everybody, and think the rest of the people are just too dumb and that there’s no use in talking to them.

7. Madonna’s Pointy Bra

Madonna is the only human being that can wear something as ridiculous as this and still manage to look hot and sexy. Everybody else looks like a complete douchebag. It scares people away even better if a dude wears it. On second thought, there might be a counter-effect. You might end up surrounded with a bunch of Lady Gaga raging fans all trying to talk to you.

8. Grow a Hitler Moustache

This is also a type of look that makes people uncomfortable. It works best if you grow this kind of mustache and take a nice walk in front of a Synagogue. There might be some enthusiasts trying in vain to make others believe you’re doing that as part of Charlie Chaplin tribute since you’re a huge fan, but no worries, no one would believe them.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about this cunning ways of avoiding making pointless small talk with people in the street. Who could say the answer is so simple? Just wear something ridiculous that will make them think your insane and possibly dangerous and aggressive and you’re off the hook. A lot happened in the internet in 2011. This was a big year for meme,as the internet was literally ruled by them, and some even started to crossover into the mainstream media. Rebecca Black became a superstar, advice animals were everywhere, Occupy Wall Street, Charlie Sheen, planking with all its derivatives were invading our eyes and ears. Prepare yourself for a quick flashback and have a look at some of the most popular, hilarious and memorable memes from the biggest meme year in internet history so far: 2011.

1. Karate Kyle

We’ll start with Karate Kyle, just to warm up the hearts of all those poor geeks who have been molested in their high school. Karate Kyle is a symbol of retaliation for all of them. Those bullies will think twice before picking up on some poor nerd.

2. Baby Godfather

Awww… Isn’t he just adorable so upset, in that little tuxedo, pointing his chubby little finger down and giving blunt orders filled with anger and threats to some unseen member of his mob crew?

3. Obama “Not Bad”

The third picture with Obama having a “not bad” face expression was taken on May 24, 2011, when they were visiting the Queen of England at Buckingham Palace. It soon became insanely popular and was even turned into a comic. Then it was posted under images depicting all sorts of inappropriate situations, when the last thing you would expect to hear from the president and his first lady is “not bad”!

4. Pepper Spray Cop

In an image that has in many ways become emblematic of the “Occupy Wall Street” movement, a police officer named Lt. John Pike was snapped blithely spraying pepper spray directly into the faces of student protesters at UC Davis. The incident occurred on November 18th, and within days, the photo was everywhere online, with Pike and his pepper spray being placed into a variety of different settings.

5. Megyn Kelly

While the whole pepper spray cop was at it’s peak, a sub-meme emerged when Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly said that pepper spray is essentially a food product. The result was galore of meme showing her picture with captions casually dismissing other abusive or violent behavior:

“First World Problems” meme refer to complaints and frustrations that are minor and insignificant compared to those issues facing people in the Third World. We prefer calling them “white whines” … and they were inevitably followed by…

7. Third World Success

Here you can see an African child that is insanely happy about something and is dancing and celebrating some small victory. That immediately made us wonder what could possibly he be happy for? And of course, the most morbid ideas came to our mind, like the one above, for example.

8. Nope, Chuck Testa

The best taxidermist alive, Chick Testa, fools many people into believe that his stuffed animals are alive, driveing cars, etc. People simply loved this low-cost ad, and it went viral and became ridiculously popular.

It wasn’t long until the first parody of Testa appeared on Reddit, and introduced the now-familiar formula: A photo in which someone or something appeared to be alive, but was then revealed to be manipulated by Chuck Testa.

9. Steve Buscemi’s Eyes

It all started with someone putting the eyes of the actor Steve Buscemi on Justin Bieber:

10. The Bill O’Reilly Meme

When Bill O’Reilly recently spoke with David Silverman, the man who calls himself the President of American Atheists, he made one of the biggest gaffes he’s ever spoken, and it caused so much ridicule that an entire meme came out of it.

O’Reilly: “I’ll tell you why [religion is] not a scam, in my opinion,” he told Silverman. “Tide goes in, tide goes out. Never a miscommunication. You can’t explain that. You can’t explain why the tide goes in.”

Putting thousands or years of work from astronomers, oceanographers, and scientists to shame, O’Reilly throws his insight into the mix, claiming the existence of God to be proven through the inexplicable nature of the tides of the ocean.

11. Angry Vancouver Fan

This meme features a picture of a man named Jason Li wearing a Vancouver Canucks shirt, holding a hockey stick, in front of the shattered windows of a BMO Financial Group building. The picture was taken after the 7th game of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals where the Boston Bruins defeated the Canucks 4-0, making the Bruins the victors of the series. Angry Vancouver fans then rioted in the streets.

12. Zuckerberg Note Pass

The Zuckerberg Note Pass is a series of screenshots taken from the 2010 film The Social Network, in which Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg opens a note that was passed to him by a girl in class. The first panel is of thegirl looking at him in disgust, the second is the note, the final is Zuckerberg’s (as played by Jesse Eisenberg in the film) reaction. Like this:

13. Scumbag Everything

It all started with Scumbag Steve, but then it had so many different variations, it feels like it’s been around for years. Blake Boston, a white guy rapper had a picture of himself that his mom took of him poking through a door. He was helping his mom with an art project for a class she was taking. In the picture, he looks like he’s about to ask for a favor, and once Reddit got a hold of it (well, mainly /r/Trees, Reddit’s leading Marijuana section and /r/AdviceAnimals, a section that became HUGE this year) they just kinda went nuts with the picture.

But who is Scumbag Steve?

Scumbag Steve (not Blake Boston, the guy from the original image, but Scumbag Steve) is that guy we all knew in High School (or unfortunately know in “real life”) who was the biggest inconsiderate, ignorant, egotistical, idiotic, mooching, freeloading, all-talk-no-walk, would-ruin-at-least-one-thing-at-parties tough guy who looked exactly like Blake Boston.

So many of us know someone so unreliable, and downright horrible, though, that after the Scumbag Steve was huge, the hat he’s wearing in the picture started being put onto foreign objects which, then, would become scumbags themselves.

14. Student and Teacher Macros

A number of new “advice animal”-style memes appeared in 2011, all of them referencing the common, shared experiences of students. Some focused on stereotypes or typical behavior of fellow students, while others took direct aim at educations, critiquing the job performance or irritating habits of teachers. (Many of these refer back to themes common in all the “Scumbag Memes” discussed elsewhere on this list.) Here’s just a sample of some of these student or teacher-based image macros:

18. Bear Grylls Meme

Bear Grylls has become a household name and is a synonym for “the guy that drinks his own piss”. It’s gone beyond the point of no return. A stuff like this begun appearing:

Call me crazy, but he seems to be on to something here!

2o. Oblivious Suburban Mom

I simply love this one. The oblivious suburban mom is so hot, yet not aware of it, her teenage son’s friends are drooling all over her and calling her MILF, and she of course has no idea what that means, but thinks they are really friendly. She keeps wondering how come each day after her kids go to a party a flu strikes, and they spend the whole next day puking and simply can’t figure out why her son hides his plants and flowers in his room.

21. Grandma finds the Internet

Grandma finds internet or Internet Grandma Surprise, or sometimes just “grandma meme”, is an image macro series featuring an elderly woman looking at a laptop computer screen surprised by what she finds on the internet. The overlaid text generally centers around reactions to questionable internet content, several of which imply she is looking at various shock sites.

22. PTSD Clarinet Boy

PTSD Clarinet Boy is an image macro series based on a photo of a redheaded boy in music band uniform holding a clarinet. Superimposed onto the back of his head, the image of the uniformed boy gazing afar gives an impression that the boy is thinking about the past, hence the captions typically emulate the first-person accounts of a war veteran suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Ordinary Muslim Man is an advice animal image macro series featuring a smiling man wearing a Muslim taqiyah hat. The images are typically accompanied by bait-and switch captions with an initial statement that can be perceived as anti-American, followed by a phrase the renders the statement innocuous.

30 Ways the World Used to be Cooler

Man! The world used to be so cool, when did all this lameness hit us? I have to admit I didn’t really get all those people that are into nostalgia and collecting antique, listening to old music and watching to old black and white movies from the beginning of the last century, but now I finally get it. The world used to be way cooler than it is now. Just look at these awesome photos in the gallery bellow and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Nobody was concerned with alcohol, tobacco or snuff abuse. People weren’t smudging their kids by being overly protective, like they are today. It was the world of whiskey vending machines and ladies with shotguns and eye-patches. What went wrong? Can we at least bring the pipe smoking baby that resolves mysteries back or the bear boxing?

Meredith Carpenter and Lillian Fritz-Laylin — Science explains why humor turns women on. We all know that women like funny guys (how else do you explain Woody Allen’s love life?), but empirical evidence for this phenomenon has been sorely lacking. Fortunately, in a recent study in the journal Psychological Reports, a French scientist took up the challenge of testing whether humor helps men pick up women.

In the study, “Men’s sense of humor and women’s responses to courtship solicitations: an experimental field study”, the author (who you might remember from such classic studies as “Women’s bust size and men’s courtship solicitation” and “Bust size and hitchhiking: a field study” set out to test whether “producing humor might function as a fitness indicator associated with greater desirability during dating selection.”

For the experiment, the researcher recruited several young “male confederates” (no, not the Southern kind) to help out. The guys sat in a bar near a woman, and one of them was instructed to tell (or, in the control condition, not tell) three jokes to his companions. These jokes had been previously chosen for their funniness by a panel of women, so we can only assume something has been lost in the translation from French:

“Two friends are talking: “Say, buddy, could you loan me 100 Euros?” “Well, you know I only have 60 on me.” “OK, give me what you’ve got and you’ll only owe me 40.”

A young teacher is interviewing for a position. He is asked: “Can you give me three reasons why you wanted to be a teacher?” The interviewee promptly answers: “December, June, and July.”

A little boy asks his Dad, “What’s a bank?” His Dad answers: “It’s a place where you put your money for awhile, before the IRS takes it all away.”"

The two companions were instructed to respond with phrases like “That’s hilarious!” and “You always know the good ones!”. The companions then left, and the joker asked the woman (who had overheard the whole charade) for her phone number. Finally, the woman was “debriefed” and asked to take a short survey to rate the guy on his attractiveness, intelligence, and sense of humor.

The result of these shenanigans? “The previous expression of humor was associated with greater compliance with the male confederate’s request and with a higher positive evaluation.” In other words, the guy who told jokes was rated as funnier and more attractive by the women, thus snagging him more phone numbers.

The author goes on to speculate about why women might be attracted to humor:

Humor for women may perhaps be interpreted as a personal trait related to intelligence; intelligence is an important trait in evaluating the probability of obtaining higher status and success in financial prospects. This effect could explain why men used humor more frequently than women because the lack of humor is associated with less interest in the female’s mental activity.

So basically, the author thinks women like funny guys because it shows their intelligence, but men choose women for other reasons—perhaps (based on his other publications) bust size?

After all this we suggest to all guys that have troubles with ladies to work on their sense of humor, because men who can make women laugh seem to have a kind of halo effect – if you are funny, you can win anyone over.

Cows watching TV

Now, here’s a little lesson in cow psychology! Wait, don’t laugh, this is serious business. Some Russian farmer heard somewhere that his cows will give more milk if they are happier and more relaxed. Then he pondered a bit wondering what is the thing that cows love most and what makes them happy, and came up with an idea. He’ll install wide LCDs in barns and play the images of juicy green grass all day long!

To see if this modern and expensive method is showing any results, he divided his cows in two teams. Team A will watch TV with images of green lawns, while on the other hand, team B will be deprived of this pleasure. Then he’ll measure up the amount of milk that they are giving. Since the experiment is still in process, we don’t know the results.

Judging by these images, these cows don’t seem to be impressed by the program. Maybe when our inventive farmer finishes with this experiment he should try out playing different sort of videos, like classic music, ballet or images from the space. Since the point is to make cows feel relaxed maybe he should try out making the barns more cosy with a few cushions and candles.

Now, this strange looking vehicle really makes me wonder. It’s obviously originally been a bus, but then someone decided that it would be much better if he turned it into a dredger. But somewhere in the middle of the work he remembered that he also needs the bus for transportation. Here you can see clearly the creativity of the Chinese people.
