Why are there so many common misconceptions on just about any given topic under the sun? I guess it has something to do with people making assumptions, and gossiping. When everybody adds a little something to the story, just to spice things up, it usually ends with a bunch of nonsense that are widely considered to be truth or, in some extreme cases, these misconceptions can even be regarded as “general knowledge”.

So, let’s find out which are the most common misconceptions that befuddle people around the world. Go through this list and check out your own beliefs to see if any of them happen to be false.

1. Vikings didn’t wear horn helemts

There is no evidence that Vikings wore horns on their helmets. In fact, the image of Vikings wearing horned helmets stems from the scenography of an 1876 production of the Der Ring des Nibelungen opera cycle by Richard Wagner.

2. Colubmus and the myth of the flat Earth

Christopher Columbus’s efforts to obtain support for his voyages were not hampered by a European belief in a flat Earth. Sailors and navigators of the time knew that the Earth was roughly spherical, but (correctly) disagreed with Columbus’s estimate of the distance to India, which was approximately one-sixth of the actual distance. If the Americas did not exist, and had Columbus continued to India, he would have run out of supplies before reaching it at the rate he was traveling. Without the ability to determine longitude at sea, he could not have noticed that his estimate was an error in time to return. This longitude problem remained unsolved until the 18th century, when the lunar distance method emerged in parallel with efforts by inventor John Harrison to create the first marine chronometers. The intellectual class had known that the Earth was spherical since the works of the Greek philosophers Plato and Aristotle. Eratosthenes made a very good estimate of the Earth’s diameter in approximately 240 BCE.

3. Pasta is not originally from Italy

Worldwide, pasta has become synonymous with Italian cuisine. Italian immigrants themselves brought pasta everywhere they went. While it is true that the most famous varieties and recipes of cooking pasta really do come from Italy, surprisingly, the actual origin of pasta lies elsewhere!
There is a legend that Marco Polo imported pasta from China which originated with the Macaroni Journal, published by an association of food industries with the goal of promoting the use of pasta in the United States. Marco Polo describes a food similar to “lagana” in his Travels, but he uses a term with which he was already familiar. Durum wheat, and thus pasta as it is known today, was introduced by Arabs from Libya, during their conquest of Sicily in the late 7th century, according to the newsletter of the National Macaroni Manufacturers Association, thus predating Marco Polo’s travels to China by about six centuries.Further support for this theory can be found by the fact that, in many old Sicilian pasta recipes, there are Arab gastronomic introductions

4. Marie Antoinette didn’t say “let them eat cake”

Marie Antoinette did not actually use the phrase “let them eat cake” when she heard that the French peasantry was starving due to a shortage of bread. The phrase was first published in Rousseau’s Confessions when Marie was only 10 years old and most scholars believe that Rousseau coined it himself, or that it was said by Maria-Theresa, the wife of Louis XIV. Even Rousseau (or Maria-Theresa) did not use the exact words but actually Qu’ils mangent de la brioche (“Let them eat brioche [a rich type of bread]“). Marie Antoinette was a very unpopular ruler and many people therefore attribute the phrase “let them eat cake” to her, in keeping with her reputation as being hard-hearted and disconnected from her subjects.

5. Napoleon wasn’t short

Napoleon Bonaparte was not short; rather he was slightly taller than the average Frenchman of his time. After his death in 1821, the French emperor’s height was recorded as 5 feet 2 inches in French feet. This corresponds to 5 feet 6.4 inches (1.686 m). Some believe that he was nicknamed le Petit Caporal (The Little Corporal) as a term of affection.

6. Alcohol ‘cooks out’ off the food

Alcohol does not “cook out” of food in most cases. The myth that alcohol does all cook out stems from the fact that alcohol has a much lower boiling point temperature (173 degrees Fahrenheit/78.5 degrees Celsius) than water (212F/100C). Thus, if the temperature is above 78.5 degrees Celsius, then the alcohol should boil off, right? Wrong! Contrary to what most people believe, the entire alcohol content doesn’t always evaporate or boil away before the food is served. A study from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Nutrient Data Laboratory showed that it can take longer than two and a half hours for all the alcohol to be cooked out of food to which wine or some other alcoholic beverage has been added.

7.The mystery of a microwave oven

Microwave ovens do not cook food from the inside out. Upon penetrating food, microwave radiation decays exponentially due to the skin effect and does not directly heat food significantly beyond the skin depth. As an example, lean muscle tissue (meat) has a skin depth of only about 1 centimetre (0.39 in) at microwave oven frequencies.

8. Blind as a Bat?

This is another fallacious statement. All species of bats have eyes and are capable of sight. Though most use echolocation, they are still capable of sight.

9. Shaving does not make hair grow in thicker or faster

Even though I find this hard to believe, the truth is that shaving does not make hair grow in thicker or faster. It appears that way because after you shave, the hair is shorter thus appearing to be thicker as it is less flexible.

10. X stands for the Christ

“Xmas” is not a secular plan to “take the Christ out of Christmas.” “The usual suggestion is that ‘Xmas’ is … an attempt by the ungodly to x-out Jesus and banish religion from the holiday.” However, X stands for the Greek letter Chi, the starting letter of Χριστός, or “Christ” in Greek. The use of the word “Xmas” can be traced to the year 1021 when “monks in Great Britain…used the X while transcribing classical manuscripts into Old English” in place of “Christ”. The Oxford English Dictionary’s “first recorded use of ‘Xmas’ for ‘Christmas’ dates back to 1551.” Paul Brians adds that, “so few people know this that it is probably better not to use this popular abbreviation in religious contexts.”

11. The great Wall of China is not visible from the Moon

It is commonly claimed that the Great Wall of China is the only human-made object visible from the Moon. This is false. None of the Apollo astronauts reported seeing any specific human-made object from the Moon, and even Earth-orbiting astronauts can barely see it. City lights, however, are easily visible on the night side of Earth from orbit. The misconception is believed to have been popularized by Richard Halliburton decades before the first moon landing. Shuttle astronaut Jay Apt has been quoted as saying that “the Great Wall is almost invisible from only 180 miles up.

12. Bulls are not enraged by red

Bulls are not enraged by the color red, used in capes by professional matadors. Cattle are dichromats, so red does not stand out as a bright color. It is not the color of the cape but its movement that irritates the bull and incites it to charge.

The 9 Most Terrifying Real-Life Nerf Weapons

Nerf has been making kids happy by letting them shoot other kids in the face for years now. However, much like ‘The Hunger Games’, we can’t help but get the feeling that they’re secretly training kids to fight wars. After all, why else would they have invented…

#9: The Stampede

Ok, so let’s go through this gun and see if we can identify the scariest feature of it. Is it the barrel-mounted tripod which means that, if you’re ever unfortunate enough to be in range of this weapon, the shooter will have a steady enough shot to be able to expertly put a dart between your eyes? Is it the massive definitely-overcompensating-for-something magazine capable of holding up to 18 darts? Or is the fact that with the bullet shield on the front, you will never ever be able to put your opponent down with a headshot before they riddle with foam?

Trick question: all of these things are equally terrifying. Don’t mess.

#8: The Maverick

You might have scoffed when you saw the above picture and, yes, we have to admit that the blue and yellow color scheme doesn’t lend itself well to us calling it a terrifying piece of hardware. But, if it makes you feel any better (it won’t), you know for a fact that the only occasion when you’ll ever see this gun in Nerf battle is after you’ve been captured using one of the bigger guns mentioned above, and your captors are sitting re-enacting The Deer Hunter. Oh, and by the way, as Penny Arcade once pointed out you’re Christopher Walken.

#7: The Havok Fire Vulcan EBF-25

Thanks to games like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty, only a small number of children don’t know about the Normandy Invasion during World War 2. So, thanks to Nerf, now your kids/you and your delinquent friends can re-enact it with an untold level of authenticity! Watch as your friends try to shoot you whilst you mow most of them down with your gatling gun! Experience the thrills as you swivel the gun in all directions, ensuring no-on goes away unscathed! Forget about needing to reload thanks to the belt-fed mechanism capable of holding 25 darts! Warning: using this gun in such a way will make you look like a Nazi, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

#6 and #5: The Longshot and Longstrike

Just for the sake of clarification, the Longshot is the top gun whilst the Longstrike is the one on the bottom. Now that’s sorted, you might be saying to yourself “Isn’t this cheating by having two guns under one item on the list”, and our reply is “Yes, absolutely, but we’re trained in the usage of all Nerf guns ever, so bring it bitch”. The simple face of the matter though, is that both of these guns are equally insane, and there’s little difference between them. They’re terrifying creations born out some twisted experiment by Nerf at creating guns which are stupid-looking enough not to get you shot by the cops if you ever use them in public, but powerful enough (and trust the author on this) to actually badly hurt you if you ever (again, trust the author on this) get shot in the face with one.

If you’re ever on the wrong side of the barrel during battle, hope for a strong wind though. Foam darts hate that.

#4: Raider

The first thing you’ll notice about this gun is the huge freaking barrel mounted onto the side. The huge freaking barrel that, despite looking like something from ‘Bugsy Malone’, is capable of holding 35 kidney-destroying darts. However, like all the best bad guys, this gun has two main issues: firstly, it only fires one dart at a time and secondly, after every shot, it needs to manually reloaded using a slide on the front. But, holy shit, be glad this thing only has one barrel because this gun hurts. Imagine a minigun version, but don’t imagine that too hard because that would be the best thing they’ll never ever make ever.

#3: Wildfire

Well, we’ll just shut up our stupid mouths on our stupid faces then won’t we? Yes, apparently Nerf made a minigun and it looks as terrifying as all shit. The Wildfire was able to fire 24 darts in a bowels-emptying-ly fast time of 8 seconds, which equates to one dart every 0.3 seconds. We’re not mathematicians here, but when that gun could easily be aimed at your genitals by a particularly malicious opponent, that time is very very very quick. If you see one, just treat it like a wild lion and run for your life.

#2: Deploy

Question: what’s worse than a gun? Answer: a gun you can’t see until it’s pointed at your chest. That’s obviously the same thing that was running through the heads of the Nerf designers when they came up with the Deploy; when disguised, it’s shaped like a toolbox with a torch on the front, which considering that’s also bright yellow, also has the side effect of making you look like a raging tool too. However, by pressing a switch on the top, it instantly transforms into a sub-machine gun and suddenly you’ve taken 7 darts to the chest.

#1: Big Bad Bow

You’ve all probably tried strawberry, cherry or mint lip gloss already. And they all smell so good you just wish you could eat them! And as a little girl I even bit a strawberry lip balm, and I’m not proud of it, especially, because it tasted absolutely terrible. Luckily, I had no access to bacon or french fries lip balms. Those are just two items of this weirdest lip balms list.

I can’t even imagine what would happen if four-year-old me had seized this vanilla marshmallow piece of magic.

Most of the people look at Rihanna as girly girl pop star and somehow having 15 tattoos doesn’t really concur with that image, but I’m guessing this is that part “good girl gone bad”.

19 Pepsi Flavors You’ve Probably Never Heard Of

The soda war has been raging for years between Cola and Pepsi, and to win both companies were experimenting with new, unusual flavors. We still don’t have an official winner, but we have to admit that in the category of the most bizarre flavors that appeared and were then swiftly withdrawn from the supermarket shelves, Pepsi has undoubtedly come out on top. Most of these ridiculously flavored Pepsi drinks appeared (lo and behold) in Japan, but to be fair, Russia had its share in this monkey business, as well. So, here’s a toast to that crazy bubbly drink!

1. Ice Cream (Russia)

Pepsi that tastes like vanilla ice cream appeared in Russia, and despite how awesome it sounds, it apparently tasted like shit, because it was soon withdrawn from sale.

2. Pepsi Cappuccino (Russia and Romania)

This Pepsi flavor was probably designed to keep you awake.

Did you ever pay attention to female superhero characters and their impractical, stripper-ish costumes in the comics? If you have trouble noticing how sexist their outfits are, or how demeaning the presenting of these characters in general is, just try picturing male characters instead of the females and you’ll see how awful it is. The female costumes are so ridiculously cut, like the most important thing in fighting crime and catching villains is to show as much cleavage, crotch and butt as possible. This makes me so mad!

1. Bus stop ad that smells of baked potatoes

Imagine waiting for a bus with scent of baking food, spreading about in the air all around you! That is what I call smart advertising. The ‘mccain ready baked jackets’ outdoor campaign brings an interactive, multisensory display to bus shelters throughout the UK.

2. Starry night interactive animation

Greek artist and electrical engineer, Petros Vrellis, has created an interactive animation of Vincent van Gogh’s painting ‘The Starry Night’. Left alone, the visualization sends the paint daubs of the saint-rémy night sky into swirling patterns of motion, governed by the mathematics of particle dynamics. A touch interface allows viewers to deform the image, altering both the particle flow and the sound. when not touched, the visualization will return to its natural state.

3. Creative sweatshop: jelly + light

“Light & Jelly” is series of lamps cast in jelly by Le Creative Sweatshop and then photographed by Fabrice Fouillet. The results of combining this common household food with differing light sources are very colorful and look stunning.

4. Reconfigured cabinet cards

We can thank Alex Gross for turning these stiff cabinet cards from the Victorian era with those unfortunate people with constipated face expressions into lively characters that appear like they have just strung out of some Marvel’s comic book. He takes poor dead bastards who kicked it 100+ years ago and repaints them as pop icons. The result is marvelous!

5. Blind passengers

German designers Julian Appelius and Karen Olze have created ‘Blind passangers’. The screen series consists of six sublimations on polyester to be affixed to the inside of the car window. Figure options include Botticelli’s muse, Simonetta Vespucci, the bust of Nefertiti, Vermeer’s Girl with the pearl earring, Arcimboldo’ ‘Spring’ or two cherubs by Raffael, all depicted at 43 x 36 cm. The blind functions as a shade the true passenger of the vehicle while simultaneously displaying a famous art historical image to passers-by.

6. Lid sid by Luka Or

Israeli designer Luka Or has created the ‘Lid Sid’ for Israeli company Monkey Business. The pot and pan accessory offers one effective way to let off some steam in the kitchen, literally. Sid is a small figure which hangs over the edge of a pot, propping its lid open to let out some excess heat while food is simmering.

Female Fitness – Perfect Spot for Chauvinism

We’re still coming round from sock that was caused by the news which hit us last year, in November, about possibility of pole dancing becoming an Olympic sport. They even changed its name from “pole dancing” to “pole fitness” to distinguish it from erotic dancing in night clubs where semi-naked women strip in front of leering men. The popularity of these fitness clubs skyrocketed over the last decade, and more than 500 pole dancing/fitness studios sprung up across the country. The pole fitness instructors say there are women from age 14 to 72 that test their body strength, stamina and flexibility on pole. They say this “sport” provides a physical challenge that keeps both mind and body engaged.

Only few feminists found this demeaning and disrespectful toward women, while all the rest accepted it with joy and enthusiasm. If there weren’t for the Patty Bellasalma of the California National Organization for Women who dismissed pole dancing’s popularity as “symptomatic of a consumer-driven society that constantly reduces women and men into objects”, the question whether pole dancing should be treated as seedy show or Olympic sport, the answer would almost unanimously be – Olympic sport. I find this rather disturbing. It is clear to me why men are so supportive and why they would like to see this new discipline in the Olympic games, but I can’t figure out why women are so eager to hope on pole.

Even more bizarre I find the statement which most of the new pole dancers/fitness fans agree with. Most of the women that practice this new type of fitness say that they feel “more confident” and that sliding up and down cold metal rod “boosts their self-esteem”. This is quite a riddle to me. How could putting yourself in that position and playing the role of a whore under pretext that you’re “spicing up your sex life, while getting a rock hard abs”, make you feel good about yourself?

These are the results that some pro pole dancing/fitness sites promise.

And here are all graphically explained all zones and groups of muscles that are engaged while practicing this new exotic fitness routine.

Whether we like it or not, pole dancing is becoming more and more popular every day and as time passes they are even more determined in becoming one of the officially recognized sports in the Olympics. Here goes a short video from a 2010 Championship organized by the US Pole Federation (yes, it’s a real organization!) with some of the best moments, highlights of the evening, where the most vigor contestants presented their skills. It looks quite impressive, I have to admit.

And just when I was about to cool down about this whole pole dancing craze and except it as everything else, with a “it’s not my cup of tea” excuse, the chauvinists found new ways of making fun of female exercise and fitness training when declaring house cleaning as a form of aerobic that is excellent for losing calories for the women who constantly complain about not having enough time to go the gym because of all the house work. This way they will kill two birds with one stone – they’ll shape up and lose some wight at the same time as their former sloppy house turns into the shinny castle of cleanliness.

They even came up with a chart that shows how many calories you spend for each activity. Apparently, scrubbing floors on hands and knees has really high rates, it is only left behind by snow shoveling and moving large household items. The figures somewhat vary, but basically, the house cleaning calories loss looks something like this:

Washing dinner dishes – 30 calories
Raking leaves, washing your car, mowing the lawn – 100 calories
Ironing clothes – 130 calories
Vacuuming – 150 calories
Rearranging furniture – 250 calories
Sweeping – 240 calories
Packing/Unpacking – 220 calories

Well, galls, here’s a short song to raise your cleaning morale:
“One, two, three, four; Pick up a mop and clean the floor;
five, six, seven, eight; house cleaning and exercise are the perfect mate!”

Apparently, sports and fitness aren’t really for women, so according to these chauvinist ideas (it should be emphasized that most of these ideas came from women, not men!) the best thing for ladies to do, if they wish to shape up and stay fit, is to start doing chores and tiding up their houses, instead of spending vast amounts of money on aerobic classes, or, if they insist on taking up some fitness classes, that should be pole dancing, or belly dancing, or anything it that manner, that can turn out to be quite useful in the bed. Because the most important thing in woman’s life is to be a good housewife, and to keep her partner’s sexual appetites satisfied. Clara Zetkin would be so proud of women today!

The Worst Tattoo Artist Ever

Have you ever seen worse and crappier tattoos than these? Before you all jump at me with “this is fake” and no one would ever allow anybody to make such terrible tattoos on his skin, let me tell you this guy that refers to his work as Synyster Ink Tattoo is for real. As you can see, he is apparently very proud of his work, and when asked where does he find his inspiration, he answered: “”My thoughts come from my brain. NOT YOURS!” and he added that he has an ‘artistic licence’. Also he insists on not using any patterns or stencil, because his designs are ‘one of a kind’. Well, he got that right! I really haven’t seen anything like this anywhere else… I just can’t figure out where he finds customers willing to entrust him with putting ink on their skin.

This looks like a work of a drunken retarded child on heavy medications done with his left foot! There, I’ve said it! I feel much better now.

Cool Facts and the Most Ridiculous Hangover Cures

Tonight is the New Years Eve, and I suppose everybody will have at least one or two drinks. Well, for those of us who usually tend to overindulge in alcohol, the next day will start with an old familiar feeling of headache, dizziness, dry mouth and nausea, better known as hangover. Well, this year, I decided to do a little research and find out what are the best cures for hangover, but I only came across some ridiculous and absurd remedies which include rather bizarre ingredients like pickled sheep eyeballs, rabbit poop, etc. Therefor, I came to a conclusion, there isn’t really much you can do, once you find yourself in this poor condition. We can only try to be moderate in our drinking (yeah, like that ever happens) and make fun of all these ridiculous hangover cures from around the world.

First of all, lets look at some facts:

1. A hangover describes the sum of unpleasant physiological effects following heavy consumption of a drug, most notably alcoholic beverages.
The Hangover is the second solo album by former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke, released in 1997.
Guns N’ Roses was a great band before Axl Rose went fucking crazy.
Fact #3 may be slightly off track.

What Causes a Hangover?

The ethanol contained in alcoholic beverages has a dehydrating effect which causes headaches, dry mouth and tiredness. This effect can be lessened by drinking plenty of water before and throughout your night of drinking. Your liver breaks this ethanol down and the resulting chemical reactions impair the liver’s ability to supply glucose to tissues, in particular to the brain. Glucose is responsible for the brain’s energy and the lack thereof results in fatigue, weakness, moodiness and decreased attention.

Ridiculous Hangover Remedies

Each respectable culture that enjoys drinking to excess has its own hangover cure.

1. Lemon in the Armpits

Apparently some Puerto Ricans (and other citrusy fresh people) swear by this method. While I’ve read a few different opinions, the general belief is that you need to rub a slice of lemon in the armpit of your drinking arm before you start boozing. I’m not sure if it works, but at least you’ll smell fresh and fruity while drinking till oblivion.

2. Squeezing Cucumbers in Russian Sauna

Since Russians are one of the world’s biggest drinkers, it’s worth looking into their ways of getting rid of the hangover. Well, they happen to steam out their toxins in a sauna of course. Also, they say you need to drink the juice squeezed from a cucumber. I don’t know how they manage to do this in sauna!

3. Irish Burial

The Irish cure? Well they’re said “to bury the ailing person in moist river sand.” It’s not exactly clear if they keep the head above ground, or if this is simply the easiest way to get rid of the weakest drinkers. (Please, keep in mind that we deliberately looked for the least reliable sources)

4. Sicilian Sausage

I was having second thought whether to put this one in the list, but I guess the people who instituted organized crime probably know something about alcohol. Apparently, Sicilians believe that all you have to do after a wild night of drinking is eat a dried bull’s penis. Yep, that’s it. Plain and simple.

5. Jog ‘n’ Lick

They say Native Americans would run around in the morning to get sweaty after a hard night on the village. Next step? They would then lick their sweat and spit it out, to get rid of the ‘poison’. (If you weren’t puking till now, you’ll probably start.)

6. Voodoo

Is there anything more reliable than voodoo? This is usually my first thought the morning after heavy drinking, because magic trumps logic every time. Haitian voodoo people are said to recommend sticking 13 black pins in the cork of the offending bottle. It makes prefect sense.

7. Bloody Mongolian Mary

The hangover cure for heavy drinkers in outer Mongolia is “a pair of pickled sheep’s eyes in tomato juice.” Sounds probably as disgusting as it tastes. I wonder if they put them on a stirring stick like olives and serve aside with drinks.

8. 2 Cowboys 1 Cup

Cowboys in the Wild West, back in the old days used to drink a cup of fresh tea the morning after binge. Oh? That actually sounds nice… But, wait! Do you know what the secret ingredient was? It were rabbit droppings! Apparently, cowboys swore by drinking a cup of rabbit poo tea.

Lets Recap:

Most of the people drink to the excess and tomorrow feel like crap, but they do it anyway.
It is scientifically proven that it is impossible to avoid feeling like this and that there is really little you can to to help yourself, once you’re in this miserable state.
Still, people around the world keep eating awful stuff and doing ridiculous things.
Alcohol causes you to make poor decisions, therefore…

How the Internet Changed the Way We Think?

In this era of modern communication, when the whole world is a global village and every information is just one click away, we can safely say that more has changed than simply these means of information release and exchange, the internet definitely changed the way we communicate, joke, and finally, the way we think. The most common concerns about internet can all be summed in one question: “Is internet making us shallow?” Are we all becoming pancake people thin and wide spread? Thanks to Google search we are all able to dabble on the surface of many subjects at the same time, without really immersing and comprehending the matter.

Quite ironically, instead of making us smarter instant availability of information had the exact opposite effect – it made us shallow. It weakened our memory – we don’t bother remembering anything, because there is Google Search which has answers to all our questions, and we hate reading even more than ever – everything longer than 200 words is considered TLTR (Too Long To Read), or more often tl;dr (Too long; didn’t read) I guess this article falls into that category as well.

3. Meme

Among the most interesting things, in my opinion, is the way the internet changed the way we joke and our sense of humor. All of a sudden, memes swamped the internet. Meme is defined as “a cultural item that is transmitted by repetition in a manner analogous to the biological transmission of genes”. And it spreads like wild fire. In 2011 internet was literary ruled by memes. This is a typical humor for the pancake people – it spreads wide and the point is in repetition with really little or non originality and creativity. We have become “recycling pancakes”, because we take old jokes,repack them and use then use them again and again.

4. Planking

New internet trends appear on daily basis. First and most numerous “movement” was planking. A virtual community was created of people who took pictures of themselves lying face-down, like a plank on different places around the globe. After taking the photo, they would upload it to some social network, which their fellow “plankers” visit and wait for their response – even more peculiar and bizarre place to lie stiff like a plank on your belly. I think that people despite all these modern means of communication have became even more lonely in real life, and therefore decided to replace the real friends with virtual ones. Soon there were tons of variations like owling, horsemaning, etc.

5. Social Network

In developing false and virtual friendship the most important role was played by different social networks. These places are ideal for these modern impersonal relationships. As “fake” as it may be, this kind of friendships has its benefits, especially in our modern society. There you can be a better version of yourself, you can create a better image of yourself online, you only need to keep away from Facebook or MySpace when drunk or under any other influence.

6. Arab Spring

Still, not everything has turned for the worse because of the internet. There are many examples where the internet helped in opening and democratization of society, like in the case of Arab spring, otherwise known as the Arab Awakening, a revolutionary wave of demonstrations and protests occurring in the Arab world that resulted in getting Colonel Qaddafi killed, Hosni Mubarak in jail and is still in progress countries like Syria. The movement was ideologically based on the Internet and social networks like Twitter and Facebook played important role in popularizing the ideas and news from demonstrations.

7. Occupy Wall Street

From the Arab world, the germ of rebellion infected the States which are still occupied by the representatives of the 99% of nation. The protests are against social and economic inequality, high unemployment, greed, as well as corruption, and the undue influence of corporations—particularly from the financial services sector—on government.

According to Nicholas Carr the Internet “pulverizes attention, the scarcest of all resources, and stuffs the mind with trivia. Our texting, IM-ing, iPhoning, Twittering, computer-assisted selves—or self-assisted computing networks—are so easily diverted that our very mode of everyday thought has changed, changed utterly, degraded from “calm, focused, undistracted” linearity into “a new kind of mind that wants and needs to take in and dole out information in short, disjointed, often overlapping bursts.” He elaborates this in his book ‘The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing To Our Brains’. I agree largely with this idea, but we mustn’t overlook the positive things that internet brought to us, like instant availability of information and wide distribution of knowledge.

8 Brilliant Outfits for Avoiding Talking to People in the Street

I hate talking to people in the street. Don’t you just hate that forced courtesy, too? Truth be told, I’m not that big on human contact and interactions at all, but I simply hate all that fake affection when I have to pretend I’m glad to see someone, when that couldn’t possibly be further from the truth. And what’s with those staged conversations when you have to ask the person you’ve just met how he/she is doing, and then stand there and pretend you’re listening to their never ending narrative about their boring and slow lives. And then, when they finally finish showing off, the torture is not over yet, because then they ask you about your life, what your doing, what you’ve achieved, how much you’re earning, etc. and all that just to make you feel bad about yourself.

There is no escape from this. No matter what you say, no matter how carefully you plan your excuse, you’ll end up being rude, childish, behaving improper, etc. Well, all that is over! Here are some easy ways for avoiding these awkward and bothersome human contacts. You should simply pick up one of these 8 brilliant outfits and wear it every time you go out, and I guarantee you, no one will ever stop to talk to you in the street.

1. Cape

We consulted the king of awkward social interactions himself, Mr. Larry David. If there is a man that hates making pointless casual small talk, then that is this guy! You can watch short insert from the Seinfeld here and you’ll see how the cape works like a magic charm.

2. This Cap-like Thingy

I can’t really say for sure what the hell is this thing supposed to be, probably some crap for the sport fans, but I can tell you it sure as hell looks moronic enough to keep everybody away from talking to you, except the guys wearing the same thing.

Yeah, I know it’s a little bit uncomfortable to walk about in a diving suit, but you have to work hard so you could latter enjoy your conversation-free time. It would be perfect if you could manage to find an antique diving suit, like this one:

but if not, a regular, modern one will do just fine, but you should then without fail dress up your dog or cat, or both if you have and take them out for a stroll. I guarantee, there will be people crossing to the other side of the street to avoid talking to you.

You could have picked up from the title, that this article is not meant for the friendly, cheerful and open-minded people, but for egocentric jerks that hate everybody, and think the rest of the people are just too dumb and that there’s no use in talking to them.

7. Madonna’s Pointy Bra

Madonna is the only human being that can wear something as ridiculous as this and still manage to look hot and sexy. Everybody else looks like a complete douchebag. It scares people away even better if a dude wears it. On second thought, there might be a counter-effect. You might end up surrounded with a bunch of Lady Gaga raging fans all trying to talk to you.

8. Grow a Hitler Moustache

This is also a type of look that makes people uncomfortable. It works best if you grow this kind of mustache and take a nice walk in front of a Synagogue. There might be some enthusiasts trying in vain to make others believe you’re doing that as part of Charlie Chaplin tribute since you’re a huge fan, but no worries, no one would believe them.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about this cunning ways of avoiding making pointless small talk with people in the street. Who could say the answer is so simple? Just wear something ridiculous that will make them think your insane and possibly dangerous and aggressive and you’re off the hook. The Evolution of Nicolas Cage’s Hair

It’s really hard to talk about Nicolas Cage and not to ask “what the hell is going on with this guy’s hair?” Somehow, whatever role his playing he manages to put his hair to the fore. It’s almost like his hair has taken on a life of its own. It’s as if I want to see movies with him simply based on what his hair is going to look like.I believe he wakes up in the morning, looks in the mirror and asks himself – does my hair look ridiculous enough? If the answer is yes, he goes straight to the movie set, and if the answer id no, he manically starts applying all sorts of hair products until he achieves the desired effect.

1. Valley Girl – 1983

This would be young Nic, showing off his real hair, that he’s apparently so proud of.

2. Peggy Sue Got Married – 1986

The year of 1986 was turning point in Nic’s hair life. This is the year he probably lost most of his hair due to all that hair spray, and turned to using ridiculous wigs.

Now you see that the man is receding but it actually works out well because it makes the “pathetic” look more believable in this film.

4. Wild At Heart – 1990

Again, his hair in this movie, looks like extension of the character he’s playing. It makes hims more real and believable.

One short glance at this photo and you see how deeply unfortunate and miserable Nicolas Cage is, when his hair is average, human-like and simply boring.

There is an ancient theory that the length of Nicolas Cage’s hair ties in with the quality of his performance. Here goes a short clip that may help prove or destroy this theory.

The 1997 is another turning point at Nic Cage’s hair career. This is the year when the era of his ballistic andridiculous hairstyle begins.

Biome Terrarium – Technology Takes Us Back to Nature

Have you ever heard of Samuel Wilkinson‘s Biome Terrarium before? The work of this London-based designer, ‘biome’ is a floral terrarium whose climate conditions, water level, and nutrients are controlled via an application for smartphones and iPads. Low-energy lighting built into the top of the terrarium can replicate sunlight, while the temperature and other conditions are likewise viewable and manipulatable via the application.

Wilkinson likens the device to a ‘live Tamagotchi’, reflecting:

‘the idea promotes ‘digital downtime’ by finding an alternative use for smartphones and encouraging their owners to consider a slower life. The control and nurturing of a real mini eco-system takes patience and care, contrasting with the immediacy of messaging or tweeting that is so characteristic of the smartphone generation.’

This smartphone floral terrarium looks really amazing, and I get the idea of returning to the nature and slowing down for a minute or two per day, but I think you can get the same effect if you buy a simple regular plant in a pot. You can also take care of it, water it, regulate it’s temperature, etc. And the result will be exactly the same – you’ll pace yourself, calm down, relax and have a beautiful flower in your home.

Inventive Building With Musical Gutter from Dresden

Dresden is known as one of the most beautiful cities with the greatest museums in Europe. Now, it has one more touristic attraction – the blue building with creatively designed gutter that works also as a system of musical instruments. You just need to be patient and wait for the rain to come to enjoy the music of this crazy construction.

The building is located in the Kunsthofpassage neighborhood and is placed among a group of buildings that contain small boutiques, cafes, and galleries, and, even more interestingly, that are decorated with interesting artwork. It has a facade that is covered in pipes, funnels, and gutters that twist and turn in eye-catching ways.

But that’s not the best part about this building. The best part about this building is that these gutters and pipes actually make musical sounds when it rains.

The Face of God in Different Religions

Since, according to Christianity and Judaism, God created Adam in his own image, and yet people come in so many different shapes, colors and sizes, it would be nice to see how he (she?!) actually looks. But, since he doesn’t really care much for social gatherings, parties, barbecues and any other types of get-togethers, and still has no official Facebook and Twitter page, most of human beings didn’t really get the chance to see his face. Therefor, we decided to make a list of artistic representations of God by different religions to help give you a chance of recognizing your master in case he actually does show up to your next barbecue or my sister’s upcoming birthday party.

1. Zeus

In the ancient Greek religion, Zeus is the “Father of Gods and men” who ruled the Olympians of Mount Olympus as a father ruled the family. He is the god of sky and thunder in Greek mythology. His Roman counterpart is:

In ancient Roman religion and myth, Jupiter or Jove is the king of the gods, and the god of the sky and thunder.

3. Amun (Ancient Egyptian)

Amun was a god in Egyptian mythology who in the form of Amun-Ra became the focus of the most complex system of theology in Ancient Egypt. Whilst remaining hypostatic, Amun represented the essential and hidden, whilst in Ra he represented revealed divinity. As the creator deity “par excellence”, he was the champion of the poor and central to personal piety.

Russia, that vast and inexplicable country for most of the Americans and people from Western Europe, strikes again with its immense amount of weirdness and craziness. I have no idea what is going on in most of these images, but that makes them even better. If you have any sort of explanation, feel free to let us know.

For those of you who haven’t yet met this woman, allow me to introduce her to you. This is Wafah Dufour, Osama bin Laden’s niece. She’s the daughter of Osama’s half-brother, Yeslam bin Laden. She is an Indie/rock singer and a model, but she didn’t have her big break through, yet. She thinks the cause of her previous failure is the fact that America rejects her and connects her with the al-Qaida leader. The appearance of quite provocative photos of her posing in a series of seductive posses took media’s fool attention.

I’m not sure if she is trying to use her uncle’s death to get some newsman’s attention for herself and launch her carrier which unfortunately seems to go nowhere, or is this just another attempt of provoking the conservatives and raising their fury by saying that not even the Osama’s family accepts his values and ideas. I guess it is not impossible that some liberal Muslims have released these images either to show that not all Muslims are al-Qaida. The truth is that these extreme and terrorist groups are something like a slap in the face of the true believers and I think they have high-jacked the Islam for their own selfish purposes. What do you think about this question?

As far as Wafah Dufour (she changed her last name after the September 11th attack) goes, I wish her everything best and a lot of success with her carrier, but I wonder how does she expect to make a breakthrough when there is no video of her on YouTube, aside from one dealing with her photo shooting, and that mysterious music of hers can hardly be found anywhere online.

Machete is a 2010 American action film co-written, produced, and directed by Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis. It is an expansion of a fake trailer that was released together with Rodriguez’s and Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 Grindhouse. Machete continues the B movie and exploitation style of Grindhouse, including in part the same footage. Danny Trejo stars in his first lead role as the title character. He also played a character named Machete in the Spy Kids franchise, which Rodriguez also directed.
