1. Ford Model T

The Ford Model T (colloquially known as the Tin Lizzie, T‑Model Ford, or T) is an automobile that was produced by Henry Ford’s Ford Motor Company from September 1908 to October 1927. It is generally regarded as the first affordable automobile, the car that opened travel to the common middle-class American. The Ford Model T was named the world’s most influential car of the 20th century in an international poll.

2. LaSalle

General Motors’ La Salle was “the first mass-market designer car.” After its debut in 1927, the population tilted toward cities and nightlife, and “cars became vehicles for personal expression,” Ingrassia writes.

3. Ford F-Series

The Ford F-Series was a work vehicle when it debuted in the 1940s; then it became a vessel for country style, authentic and otherwise. Since 1978 it has been the bestselling vehicle in America.

4. Chevrolet Corvette

The Chevrolet Corvette “saved the great American sports car,” inspiring pop songs and television shows, Ingrassia argues. Its marketing team bypassed the head, selling to the heart—not to mention points further south.

5. Cadillac Eldorado

The 1959 Cadillac Eldorado was longer than a prep-school sailboat and had tail fins nearly as tall as the roof. It represented the unlimited ethos of the era, after three stagnant decades of Depression and war.

6. Volkswagen Beetle

The original Volkswagen Beetle was known in Germany as the “Baby Hitler,” the car of the Nazi Party. It became a ‘60s-era best-seller in American thanks to a slightly different group: American hippies. Score one for the ad guys.

7. Volkswagen Micobus

Volkswagen Micobus became such a hippie hit it made its sibling the Beetle seem posh. “It is all right to take a Microbus to the surplus store,” noted Playboy’s 1964 “Snobs Guide to Status Cars.” “It’s not alright to take a Microbus to Bloomingdales.” Still, it’s cultural impact can’t be discounted: Steve Jobs sold his Microbus to launch what became Apple Computer.

8. Chevrolet Corvair

The 1959 Chevrolet Corvair “helped make George W. Bush president,” Ingrassia writes. How? Ralph Nader gained national prominence arguing that the car was Unsafe at Any Speed; three decades later he ran for the White House, siphoning off enough Democratic votes to hand Republicans the election.

9. Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang became the perfect vehicle for unbridled post-‘50s (but pre-Vietnam) America. We took “a school librarian” and turned her into “a sexpot,” explained one Ford executive in 1964.

10. Pontiac GTO

The Pontiac GTO was street-corner rebellion made into metal. “God love’em,” announced Car and Driver magazine in 1964, Pontiac “went the hairy-chested route.”

11. Honda Accord

The Honda Accord outsold all American models at home in 1989, a first for a foreign car. It’s on the list, however, because of the company’s decision to build the cars in Ohio, which blurred the distinction between foreign and domestic, Ingrassia argues.

12. Chrysler minivan

The Chrysler minivan looked like a refrigerator on wheels, Ingrassia writes, but it sold out when it debuted in 1985. “Soccer moms” seemed to be an underserved market.

13. BMW 3-Series

The BMW 3-Series was on the market for decades before “young urban professionals,” better known as yuppies, made it a hit. By the end of the 1980s, it was a prop in the culture wars, the car of arugula-eating America.

14. Jeep

The Jeep debuted as a gold-accented upscale model in 1987 and became a hit with millions of suburbanites. Two years later, SUV was an entry in Merrian-Webster, and America’s “sports utility” boom was on

15. Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius is Ingrassia’s last entry. It’s “the first practical mass-market hybrid,” he argues, a car responsible for an “automotive-propulsion revolution,” including the new all-electric Nissan Leaf, and Chevrolet’s critical hit, the Volt.

5. Tunnel Of Love

Giant trees surround this old train tunnel located in Kleven, Ukraine. The magical-looking place is nicknamed “The Tunnel Of Love” by locals because it is a popular spot for couples to visit.

6. Blue Lagoon Hot Springs

The Blue Lagoon hot springs in Iceland are man-made bodies of water, but the springs are heated naturally with the volcanic activity on the island. The springs are especially beautiful in the snowy winter, and the water still quite toasty.

7. Ice Canyon

The ice canyons in Greenland were carved by meltwater and are as deep as 150 feet.

8. Ball Pyramid

Ball Pyramid is the world’s tallest sea stack. It is the remains of a shield volcano formed about 7 million years ago. It is 562 meters high and is located southeast of Lord Howe Island in the Pacific Ocean.

9. The Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system. It’s located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland, Australia. It’s so large, you can see it from outer space. The reef is a very popular destination for scuba divers and other tourists.

10. Plitvice Lakes National Park

Plitvice Lakes National Park is the oldest national park in Southeast Europe and the largest park in Croatia. The park is filled with luscious green scenery, beautiful lagoons, and amazing waterfalls.

This is how Agatha Christie describes Poirot in The Murder on the Orient Express in the initial pages:
“By the step leading up into the sleeping-car stood a young Belgian lieutenant, resplendent in uniform, conversing with a small man (Hercule Poirot) muffled up to the ears of whom nothing was visible but a pink-tipped nose and the two points of an upward-curled moustache.”

3. Inspector Jacques Clouseau

Inspector Clouseau is a fictional character in Blake Edwards‘ The Pink Panther series.Clouseau is the bumbling and incompetent police inspector of the French Sûreté, whose investigations are marked with chaos and destruction that he himself largely causes. His clumsy attempts at solving the case frequently lead to misfortune for himself and others. He is one of the most lovable, self absorbed onscreen idiots.

4. Ace Ventura

Ace Ventura is a fictional character, created by screenwriters Jack Bernstein, Tom Shadyac and Steve Oedekerk. Ace was played by Jim Carrey in the films (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, released in 1994, and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, released in 1995.)
Ace Ventura is an eccentric self-styled ‘pet detective’ who forsook regular police work to concentrate on this latter pursuit. Like other fictional detectives, he is notable for extraordinary powers of observation and deduction; and on at least one occasion, he has managed to escape being shot by catching a bullet in his teeth.

5. Harry Callahan

Harold Francis “Dirty Harry” Callahan is a fictional San Francisco police detective in the Dirty Harry film series. He is portrayed by Clint Eastwood in each movie.
From his debut, Callahan became the template for a new kind of movie cop: someone who does not hesitate to cross professional and ethical boundaries in pursuit of his own vision of justice, especially when the law is poorly served by an inept bureaucracy. The “Dirty Harry” archetype does not shy away from killing; all of the Dirty Harry films feature Callahan killing criminals. His rationale for such conduct is that it is done with the greater good in mind: protecting the innocent and victims of crime. Callahan’s methods are rarely endorsed by his superiors, who on various occasions have demoted, suspended or transferred him to other departments.

6. Mma Ramotswe

The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency is a series of twelve novels by Scottish author Alexander McCall Smith. The agency is located in Gaborone, capital of Botswana. Its founder is a Motswana woman, Mma Precious Ramotswe, who features as the stories’ protagonist and main detective. The episodic novels are as much about the adventures and foibles of different characters as they are about solving mysteries. Each book in the series follows on from the previous book. They have been adapted for radio, television, and internet.

7. Adrian Monk

Adrian Monk is a fictional character portrayed by Tony Shalhoub and the protagonist of the USA Network television series Monk. He is a renowned former homicide detective for the San Francisco Police Department. Monk suffers from severe obsessive-compulsive disorder and multiple phobias, all of which intensified after the murder of his wife Trudy, resulting in his suspension from the department. He works as a private police homicide consultant and undergoes therapy with the ultimate goal of overcoming his grief, taking control of his phobias and disorder, and being reinstated as a police detective.

8. Scooby-Doo

Scooby-Doo is an American cartoon series based around several animated television series and related works produced from 1969 to the present day. The original series, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, was created for Hanna-Barbera Productions by writers Joe Ruby and Ken Spears in 1969. A group of four teenagers and a great dane solve mysteries involving supposedly supernatural creatures through a series of antics and missteps. The great dane’s role initially was to add some humor to the cartoon and make it less frightening. The name was derived from the Frank Sinatra song “Strangers in the Night”. And so, the legend was born.

9. Shaft

Shaft is a 1971 American blaxploitation film directed by Gordon Parks, released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. An action film with elements of film noir, Shaft tells the story of a black private detective, John Shaft, who travels through Harlem and to the Italian mob neighborhoods in order to find the missing daughter of a black mobster.

10. Nancy Drew

Nancy Drew is a fictional character in various mystery series. She was created by Edward Stratemeyer, founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate book packaging firm. The character first appeared in 1930. The books have been ghostwritten by a number of authors and are published under the collective pseudonym Carolyn Keene. Over the decades the character has evolved in response to changes in American culture and tastes. The books were extensively revised, beginning in 1959, largely to eliminate racist stereotypes, with arguable success. Many scholars agree that in the revision process, the heroine’s original, outspoken character was toned down and made more docile, conventional, and demure.

Here you can see some of his less tense works featuring the Maasai cricket warriors. The Maasai (sometimes spelled “Masai” or “Masaai”) are a Nilotic ethnic group of semi-nomadic people located in Kenya and northern Tanzania. They are among the best known of African ethnic groups, due to their distinctive customs and dress and residence near the many game parks of East Africa. The Tanzanian and Kenyan governments have instituted programs to encourage the Maasai to abandon their traditional semi-nomadic lifestyle, but the people have continued their age-old customs. THE YEAR: 1988

THE CONTROVERSY: Guns N’ Roses seemed to enjoy courting controversy — and that joy apparently extended to their album covers. Their astonishing first album, 1987’s Appetite for Destruction, used an image, drawn by underground cartoonist Robert Williams, depicting a raping robot — later versions used different art. The album cover to their sophomore effort, G N’ R Lies, was a collage of faux tabloid stories, which included two misogynistic headlines: “Wife-beating has been around for 10,000 years” and “Ladies, welcome to the dark ages”.

WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARDS: Responding to numerous complaints, new versions of the album utilized new headlines: “LIES LIES LIES” and “Elephant gives birth to midget”.

2. The Beatles, Yesterday and Today

THE YEAR: 1966

THE CONTROVERSY: The 11th album from the Beatles — released only in the U.S. and Canada — featured the grinning Fab Four wearing butchers smocks and draped with bloody pieces of meat and dismembered doll parts. The photos were first used in promotional campaigns in the U.K., including the release of their new single “Paperback Writer” — reportedly Paul McCartney suggested it be used as a cover image. When more than a few music critics and radio DJs who were sent advance copies of the album objected to the photo, the label knew they had a problem on their hands.

WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARDS: Roughly 750,000 albums were printed and assembled. The few that made it to stores were recalled. Some copies were taken to a landfill and buried; most, however, had a new cover — with a photo of the band posed around a steamer trunk — pasted on top of the offending art. In 2006, a pristine copy of the original album sold for $39,000

3. Nirvana, Nevermind

THE YEAR: 1991

THE CONTROVERSY: One score and one year ago, a rock trio from Aberdeen, Washington, released their first “official” album, Nevermind, collection of 12 — okay, 13 — songs that would come to be regarded as one of the greatest rock albums of all time. The now-iconic album cover featured a three-month old infant — the new son of the photographer’s friend — swimming towards a dollar bill hooked on some fishing line. The label was okay with the anti-capitalism message, but had concerns about the prominent display of baby genitalia.

WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARDS: According to band biographer Michael Azerrad (Come as You Are: The Story of Nirvana), the label wanted to use a different image. Lead singer Kurt Cobain agreed to only one compromise: a strategically placed sticker that would read: “If you’re offended by this, you must be a closet pedophile.” The original album art went out untouched.

4. Aerosmith, Nine Lives

THE YEAR: 1997

THE CONTROVERSY: In 1991, Aerosmith, one of the biggest bands at that time, signed a $30 million contract with Columbia Records — a kind of deal unheard of today, but normal in that crazy coke-fueled era. The band still owed Geffen a few more albums, so they didn’t get around to their Columbia projects for another six years. Nine Lives was recorded during a time of dissent and upheaval in the band and the album’s art certainly didn’t do much to relieve their stress: the original art, drawn by Stefan Sagmeister, was based on Hindu imagery and shows Krishna dancing atop a snake demon — with Krishna’s head replaced with one of a cat (you know, Nine Lives?).

WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARDS: The art offended some in the Hindu community and the band and label released a new cover that showed another cat-headed figure strapped to a circus knife-thrower’s wheel.

5. Vampire Weekend, Contra

THE YEAR: 2010

THE CONTROVERSY: The much-anticipated second album from indie darlings Vampire Weekend, Contra was a hit both commercially (debuting atop the Billboard Hot 200) and critically (eventually landing on many best-of-the-year lists). The album cover image was taken from a discarded Polaroid discovered by Vampire songwriter Rostam Batmanglij — the band was quite taken by the enigmatic look of the blonde-tressed subject. A few month after Contra’s release, the band was named in a $2 million lawsuit filed by the girl in the photo, Ann Kirsten Kennis.

WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARDS: The legal proceedings took a strange turn after Tod Brody, the individual who claimed he took the Polaroid in 1983 and sold the rights to Vampire Weekend for $5,000, disappeared when he, in turn, was sued by the band. In August 2011, Kennis dropped her suit after receiving an undisclosed settlement from the band and label. (Brody, whose whereabout were recently discovered, still faces legal action from all parties.)

6. The Strokes, Is This It

THE YEAR: 2001

THE CONTROVERSY: The dazzling debut album from the Strokes earned raves for its effervescent pop sensibility and its raw, seemingly unprocessed sound. The album cover featured a photo of a woman’s leather-glove-encased hand (a sly nod to Spinal Tap?) resting on her bare bottom. The photographer was Colin Lane and the model was his then-girlfriend, who had just emerged from a shower.

WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARDS: When early copies of the album appeared in the U.K., retailers grumbled but stocked them in shelves. Perhaps sensing a stronger backlash from retailers in the U.S., the band replaced the stylish derriere with a more abstract image that showed the spiraling trajectories of subatomic particle collisions.

7. Sufjan Stevens, Illinois

THE YEAR: 2005

THE CONTROVERSY: The fifth album from indie-folkie Sufjan Stevens, Illinois (not Illinoise, as the album text would suggest) was reportedly the second in a series of of 50 albums, each celebrating a different state in our union. The album’s 22 tracks reference the best and worst of the Prairie State (including Carl Sandburg, serial killer John Wayne Gacy and the Cubs), and the album cover does the same: Divya Srinivasan’s illustration includes likenesses of Al Capone, the Hancock Tower, and — strangely enough — a flying Superman.

WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARDS: It was widely reported that DC Comics — the holders of the copyright to the Man of Steel — sent a cease-and-desist letter to Stevens’ label, Asthmatic Kitty. In fact, the label’s own lawyers, when alerted to this infringement, contacted DC on their own and worked out a deal that allowed them to sell existing inventory and remove Superman in subsequent pressings. (Sadly, Stevens’ later admitted his 50-state project was just a gag.)

8. The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Electric Ladyland [U.K. Version]

THE YEAR: 1968

THE CONTROVERSY: The double-disc Electric Ladyland — featuring such guitar-rock staples “Crosstown Traffic,” “Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)” and a searing cover of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” — was the third and last album from The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Jimi Hendrix himself had a definite concept of what he wanted on the cover: a picture of the band surrounded by children (taken by the future Linda McCartney, whose photos are featured inside). The labels had different ideas: Reprise, in the U.S., used a blurry picture of the rock star taken by Karl Ferris; Track, in the U.K., opted for a photo of 19 naked women sitting against a black backdrop.

WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARDS: The U.K. version, released a month after the album went on sale in the States, generated a bit of controversy, but never to the degree that caused the labels to recall or remove inventory. The Hendrix estate has stated that the U.S. album, with the Ferris pic, should be considered the “official” version.

9. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Street Survivors

THE YEAR: 1977

THE CONTROVERSY: The fifth album from the legendary Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd, Street Survivors, was, sadly, the last album recorded by founding members Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins, as well as new guitarist Steve Gaines. On October 20, 1977, just three days after the album was released, a chartered plane carrying the three bandmates crashed in Louisiana, taking seven lives in all. The album cover featured a photograph — shot at Universal Studios — of the band engulfed in flames: an image that was hard to ignore as an unfortunate and macabre premonition of the tragedy that soon followed.

WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARDS: At the request of the band’s families, the fiery picture was moved to the back of the album, and a new photo from the same shoot — with the band placed against a black background — was used on the cover. A 30th-anniversary re-issue, released in 2007, restored the original image back on the front.

10. Prince, Lovesexy

THE YEAR: 1988

THE CONTROVERSY: In late 1987, Prince fans awaited the release of his widely talked-about and deliciously funk-heavy Black Album. Only a few records went out before the artist, in true Prince fashion, abandoned the project and recalled all the albums — with the circulating copies becoming much sought-after bootlegs. A few months later, Prince released Lovesexy, which features a nude picture of the Purple One (shot by fashion photographer/video director Jean-Baptiste Mondino) reclining on a floral arrangement — with a distinctly phallic stamen pointed at his chest.

WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARDS: More than a few retailers objected to the images and would only sell the album wrapped in — you guessed it — black. (The “real” Black Album got an official release in 1994.)

The most expensive Barbie doll in the world, wearing custom-designed necklace by Canturi Jewels featuring a one-carat pink diamond, went on the auction block at Christie’s in New York City and was expected to fetch between $300,000 and $500,000.

3. Gold Monopoly – $2 million

This 18-karat solid gold Monopoly set covered with hundreds of precious gemstones is displayed at the Museum of American Finance in New York until October 2012, the game is worth $2 million. Feel free to go and take a look at it. I’m assuming you won’t be interested in buying.

It is covered in edible gold leaf with a gold leaf wrapper, the $1,600 price tag is ironically the bar’s exact weight in gold.

The most expensive Teddy bear in the world has a mouth made of solid gold, fur made from gold thread and eyes with pupils of sapphire and irises made from 20 tiny diamonds. Only 125 editions of the collectable Jubilee Bear have been produced, but we have no data how many (if any) have been sold.

I can’t possibly imagine why would anyone of sound minds waste so much money on a computer mouse. When compared with $10 million, everything seems trifle. Even though the price of this item is less then $200 it still doesn’t justify its existence. Why would anyone in the world need to staple his papers with a golden staple? What kind of a document should that be? Maybe an oil export agreement between US Government and some Middle East country.

9. Concrete Aalto Doorstop – $3,500

This doorstop is shaped like an Alvar Aalto Savoy vase and that’s because it was cast in an original vase which was then shattered to let out the mold, and hence the ridiculous and insane price.

10. Diamond Bikini – $10 million

World’s most expensive bikini is made of over 150 carats of the flawless diamonds, including a 51 carat Pear Shape, a 30 carat Emerald Cut, a pair of 15 carat Rounds, all set in platinum. This must be one of the most moronic things that were ever made. I am aware that rich people will put diamonds on everything, just to show they can, but this is just too much!

I always thought rich people spend their money on expensive yachts, mansions with servants, artwork… But it turns out, their main preoccupation is how to make everything bling. It’s good to know… This time, next year, I’ll be a millionaire and I’ll put diamonds on everything from my doorknob to my toilet paper holder!

The carnival lasts for almost a week and it is a ongoing party for the whole time. This party has the main priority on my bucket list. I can’t wait to join that pulsing crowd.

4. Songkran, Thailand

Songkran is the Thai New Year. It takes place all over the country in mid-April and is literary the biggest water fight in the world. It is a spiritual holiday and aside from helping you cool down it is supposed to symbolize washing away your last year’s sins. And the best way to do that is by committing some new ones.

5. Oktoberfest, Munich

If you’re into beer, German sausages and women with big breasts in traditional Bavarian dresses, then the Oktoberfest is the place for you! Over 6 million people from all over the world come to Munich to enjoy the best beer in the world and join the street parades of people singing German songs followed by Oompha Bands.

6. Holi, India

Similar to the Thai holiday of Songrkan, Holi is a two day Hindu spring festival that occurs in northern India. The first night is marked by bonfires, and the second day is spent pleasuring your inner 2nd grader by splashing colored flour and water over everybody. It’s a celebration about renewal.

7. The Running of the Bull, Pamplona, Spain

This must be one of the craziest festivals in the world! Every year, tens of thousands of people come in Pamplona to literally run with bulls.Locals call the event The Festival of San Fermin. Thousands of people get chased by a herd of bulls while they run through a barricaded course. It is insanely dangerous and of course, many people get injured, but it just makes me wanna go and participate even harder!

8. Ios Island, Greece

People who were at these Greek island call it the the College fraternity version of Ibiza. There are three things to do on Ios, drink and party all night, hook-up and recover on the beach. Sounds like just the right amount of activity I plan for my holiday.

9. Mardi Grass, New Orleans

Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday” (in ethnic English tradition, Shrove Tuesday), referring to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday.

10. St. Patrick’s Day, Dublin, Ireland

The Irish know how to party and they show up in most of the top party destinations. Dublin is not only a beautiful city, it also has a fantastic night life. Temple Bar area is out of control and to go to Dublin for St. Patties day is one of those things you NEED to do at least one in your life, whether you are Irish or not!

This busy mom couldn’t manage to find time to go shopping for Christmas tree, so she figured that the easiest solution would be to dress up as a tree. She even dressed her baby as one.

And when the baby grows up and goes to College, she’ll probably keep up with this odd family tradition.

This is how artists celebrate the holidays and how they decorate their Christmas tree, I mean their Christmas wall. It looks really great. I love it.

This looks like a Heineken Christmas tree or even a  communist version of a Christmas tree to me, even if it makes no sense at all. The creators of this tree say they were trying to says that no tree should be cut down for the Christmas, because every tree is a little greet fighter, but I don’t really see that.

8. Christmas Trees Addressing Consumerism

We really need more of these trees around. It would be perfect if there could be one placed in every mall, just to remind us of the vast amount of money that we are spending on presents for the holidays.

Or something like this, a Christmas tree made out of a bill. It is really small and can therefor perfectly fit in every place. You can even take it with you to your office, as a reminder.

You can barely see the tree behind all these presents! I think that we are really exaggerating and spending too much, but I’ve heard that’s good for the global economy. That might be true, but it is really bad for my own, house economy. December is all about spending, and then January is all about frowning and calculating. Just as we bounce back somewhere in February, it’s Valentine’s Day and again – time for spending money on flowers and chocolates…

… and let’s not forget stuffed plush toys! You can actually use this teddy bear tree both for Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

9. Upside Down Christmas Tree

This tree is excellent is you have a rebellious teenager that is going through puberty and has the need to counteract and oppose everything. We’ve all been there, it’s perfectly normal. It will pass and in the meantime, why not try something different. Your kid will say your cool, (probably just for a day, then everything will go back to usual) and you’ll enjoy doing searing things up and doing something different one year. My only concern is that this tree doesn’t seem very stable. I wonder if it can stand on its own.

10. Candle Christmas Tree

This is really unique and creative idea for a Christmas tree, but also it is not really practical. It will burn out too quickly, you won’t even be finished with your Christmas diner when someone will tell you that you’ve run out of Christmas tree/candle.

11. Christmas Tree Made out of Books

A Christmas tree that is made out of books is an ideal for the libraries. I’m sure all the nerds will enjoy and they might even try doing this at home.

12. OLED Spherical Christmas Tree

This is also a type of tree that most of the geeks will appreciate. Imagine how great this looks at night when the lights are on. I feel the need to experiment with my tree this year.

13. Ladder Christmas Tree

The ladder used instead of a classic pine tree and decorated with few light bulbs and a bicycle chain instead of a traditional decorations, sounds weird, but, surprisingly, it actually looks pretty good. I’m guessing this is also a Christmas tree of some artsy family or the holidays found them in the middle of painting, so they decided to make the best of it.

14. Car Enthusiast’s Christmas Tree

This is probably how the car enthusiasts or members of the Top Gear Christmas tree looks like. There is also this version:

Somehow I have the feeling that their wives weren’t as enthusiastic as them about this tree.

15. Cardboard Christmas Tree

A Cardboard Christmas Tree? Seriously? This looks too cheap, in my opinion. I know I say that we are spending too much for the holidays, but still, this is somehow too cheap and it makes me sad a little bit. So, therefor, this is definitely something I will never put in my home.

16. Neon Light Christmas Tree

The Neon Light Christmas Tree is also something a geek or nerd might appreciate. I have to admit it looks good and it can be very useful.

17. Traffic Light Christmas Tree

Wow! A Christmas tree made of traffic lights? This looks awesome. I’m a little concerned how they regulate the traffic at this intersection during the holiday season.

But, still… I really dig this. It reminds us, that even in heart of cities, far away from the nature, we can still manage to find something aesthetic, and inspiring and enjoy our holidays.

18. R2D2 Christmas Tree

Is it, really? Honestly, I have no idea what is this Christmas Tree/robotic sculpture supposed to represent, but it looks like R2D2 to me. And there goes another tree ideal for the geeks. Is it just me, or are they taking over the Christmas?

19. Hazardous Christmas Tree

Here goes a Christmas tree that probably emerged from some College frat house. And the material for building this tree (the empty beer bottles) was probably provided at a party, the night before. They will probably try to pull this out as a part of recycling awareness, but we’ve already seen that tree and it looks nothing like this.

Talking about Christmas parties, here goes another Christmas tree, or maybe it would be better to call it a Christmas bush, that is ideal for celebrating Christmas.

20. Ridiculously Expensive Christmas Tree

And for those who love to spend their money on stupid stuff, here goes the ridiculously expensive Christmas tree with luxurious ornaments. I didn’t like the extra cheap one made of cardboard, but I don’t like this one either.

So, you see, the Christmas tree doesn’t have to be boring and always the same. You can use this piece of tradition as a means of expressing your creativity and maybe even send a message through it to the world, or at least your family and friends. Enjoy decorating your tree, relax for the next few days, charge your batteries and may all of you have a marry Christmas and a happy New Year!

So, it doesn’t really come as a surprise that we’re obsessed with immortality, wondering if it is possible to achieve it and, if yes, how can we do this. From the earliest times people were thinking about achieving immortality. Whether it is through spirituality, by the means of different religions – Hinduism, Sikhism, Christianity, Zoroastrianism, Islam, Judaism, etc. In most of these cases there is a concept of dualism, that every man is made of physical body and independent immortal soul. The “soul” itself has different meanings and is not used in the same way in different religions and different sects of a religion. Hindus believe in an immortal soul which is reincarnated after death. In Judaism and Christianity, the immortality can be achieved only through resurrection with the coming of the messiah. Muslims believe that everyone will be resurrected after death. Those who didn’t believe in Islam or the believers who led an evil life will undergo correction in Jahannam (Hell) but once this correction is over, they are admitted to Jannat (Paradise) and attain immortality.

Even ancient Greek philosophers, like Plato, for example, were contemplating over the idea of an immortal soul. He believes in metempsychosis, the transmigration of souls from one living thing to another, and in reincarnation, the rebirth of the soul in new bodies. (This pretty much sounds like Hinduism to me)

There is one problem with the whole concept of immortal soul. We unquestionably accept the idea of our souls continuing to exist after our physical body is long gone and decomposed, but somehow it is difficult for us to believe that it also existed before our bodies were created. Is there some sort of cosmic melting pot where all souls stay until there is a new body available? And if it is so, what happens with souls these days, with the rapid population growth that we have? Are souls getting divided into three or six? Maybe that is why people are so soulless and cold lately.

Or could it be that human souls are created in the moment of our inception, by taking parts from our parents souls? It makes sense, when you look at those poor parents with ten children, they really look like there is no soul in them left.

And if we turn away from the spiritual pursuit of eternal life, we’ll come upon desperate hordes of people trying to achieve physical immortality of their human bodies. It sounds really scy-fi and has indeed been a prolific source of inspiration for many vampire, super heroes or science fiction movies in which the magical pill has been discovered and humans were able to live forever. With the latest science and technology discoveries and medicine improving on daily basis, it seems that we are actually not all that far away from, well, maybe not achieving immortality, but prolonging our lives for a really long time.

I agree with Woody Allen and think most of the people do too, because there aren’t many who are interested in achieving immortality through their work, but they would prefer to achieve it more literary through not dying. So let’s for a moment try to picture this out.

Imagine if we were really able to stop our cells from aging, miraculously avoid all the diseases and traumas and some magical day in future we actually managed to meet the desires of every man alive – to avoid death and live forever. What would that be like? Would human kind finally be happy and satisfied? Somehow, I’m afraid not. To keep this in the sphere of “realistic” fiction, let’s assume that the longest lifespan with all the technology, science, medicine, etc. will still be somewhere between 1000 and 2000 years. That sound bearable and even appealing. But can you even imagine infinity? Can you even wrap your mind around the idea of walking the Earth still in the same body as the day you were born for millions of years and more – forever?

Honestly, if you ask me, it sounds like a nightmare, even worse than the idea of dying and completely disappearing! For starters, we are still evolving and who knows what future human beings would be like, what food would they eat, will they loose some useless organs like appendix or wisdom teeth, (that some scientists are already predicting we will in the future) what language would they speak? Imagine all those super-improved people around you in a world you can not comprehend. You’d be like a caveman in an Apple Store!

Being unable to connect to other people, living completely isolated and unable to comprehend the ways of this new world that goes on changing and evolving, while time speeds up until you’re completely insane sounds to me exactly like hell. And, since you live FOREVER, from the moment you’ve gone crazy, there is a whole eternity of madness waiting for you.

I guess, what I’m trying to say is – enjoy you life, while it lasts. Make the best of it! Our lives are so priceless exactly because they are unique, unrepeatable and finite. Every day happens to you just once, and you won’t ever get a second chance to make something better out of it, so seize all the opportunities and never regret for anything.

In July, 2011 we had to say goodbye to Amy Winehouse, amazing singer-songwriter known not only for her powerful deep contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, but unfortunately for her propensity to vices. She was found dead in her house, due to alcohol poisoning on July 23rd and from that moment her name became the ultimate buzzword in media. She somehow miraculously and over the night made the leap from a no good bum for which she was considered while still alive, to the musical genius and marvelous artist.

3. Angela Merkel

The year of 2011 was definitely the year of women, as female politicians, musicians, actresses and public figures have completely suppressed their male colleagues. Angela Merkel, the current Chancellor of Germany, President of the European Council and chairman (or chairwoman) of the G8, became one of the most often mentioned politicians in all news lately, and especially with the latest problems in the European Union and the troubles with devaluation of the euro. We have no doubt she’ll manage to overcome all these troubles.

4. Kim Kardashian

We’re not equally proud of all the people from this list. This is just a list of all of those who gained some crazy extra media attention in 2011. Kim Kardashian and her divorce with Kris Humphries after the scandalously short period of time (only 72 days) stirred the public. Many speculated how much she earned on this instant marriage and divorce.

5. Osama bin Laden

Bin Laden is the first of two villains to whom we said goodbye in 2011. He was the founder of the militant Islamist organization Al-Qaeda, the jihadist organization responsible for the September 11. On May 2nd, 2011, bin Laden was shot and killed inside a private residential compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

6. Muammar Gaddafi

The second is Muammar Gaddafi. He was also known as Colonel Gaddafi, and he was the official ruler of the Libyan Arab Republic from 1969 to 1977 and then the “Brother Leader” of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya from 1977 to 2011. On 20th October 2011 he was captured by a rebel militia and almost immediately deeply disturbing footage, showing him all bloody and in a torn shirt as the rebels kept kicking him and punching him in the face, was released to public. Latter on, it was confirmed that he was dead.

We can’t possibly make a list of most popular people in the 2011 without mentioning Justin Bieber. There is an ongoing craze about him among young teenage girls. I’m not really sure what they see in this guy, but he is insanely popular and somehow everyone seems to be so taken by his religiousness, way of talk and behavior. Honestly, I feel the need to punch him in the face, but… hey, it’s not like anyone has asked me for an opinion.

10. Selena Gomez

Speaking of Bieber, we should also mention Selena Gomez, another young girl who’s career has taken up really fast in this year. As of April 2011, her band (Selena Gomez & the Scene) has sold 1,354,000 albums in the United States. Man… there is something really wrong with the kids these days.

11. Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs, co-founder, chairman, and former CEO of Apple Inc is another great man that has left us in 2011. He was inventor widely recognized as a charismatic pioneer of the personal computer revolution. On October 5, 2011, around 3:00 p.m., Jobs died at his home in Palo Alto, California, aged 56, six weeks after resigning as CEO of Apple. A copy of his death certificate indicated respiratory arrest as the immediate cause of death, with “metastatic pancreas neuroendocrine tumor” as the underlying cause. His occupation was listed as “entrepreneur” in the “high tech” business. During the first few days after his death media praised him, glorified him and rose him to absurd.

12. Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton, or Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge became insanely popular in the 2011 by marrying Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and received widespread media attention. The couple married in Westminster Abbey on 29 April 2011, (St. Catherine’s Day) with the day declared a bank holiday in the United Kingdom. Estimates of the global audience for the wedding ranged around 300 million or more, whilst 26 million watched the event live in the United Kingdom. She is today one of the most popular women in the world and people simply love her and especially her dressing style.

13. Michele Obama

Michele Obama, wife of current American President Barack Obama and the First Lady of the United States is one of the most influential women in the world and one of the most popular persons in the 2011. Michele continually commands media attention for her intense efforts towards ending childhood obesity and has developed a cult-like following among world fashionistas for her stylish inclinations. In the past year, she has made official and non-official trips to at least four continents, including a visit to South Africa where she was granted a rare audience with former president and Apartheid hero Nelson Mandela.

14. Beyoncé Knowles

Money, influence and overall popularity always go together. Beyonce Knowles turned 30 this year and by now she managed to earn 16 Grammy awards. She also runs a fashion label, House of Dereon, and has released her fourth solo album, “4”. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 310,000 copies in its first week.

15. Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson is a name that was on everybody’s lips for days after the notorious “mirror” scandal when photos of her in which she was posing with nothing on but a towel leaked in public. She latter on commented on the images which were sent to her now-ex husband Ryan Reynolds:

“I know my best angles,” she says. “They were sent to my husband. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not like I was shooting a porno.” ”Although there’s nothing wrong with that either,” she adds.

There’s definitely nothing wrong with that, we agree. Scarlett looks absolutely amazing with her sexy, voluptuous curves and we can only thank her for taking those pictures and hope for more in the future.

Wearing a funny costume while running 42km though the city started as a part of humanitarian action. The fundraisers came up with an idea that runners could attract more attention if their run the marathon in some fancy dresses and that it would be easier to raise money for charity that way. And of course, it worked!

Nowadays there are so many people running the marathon in crazy and unimaginable outfits that their number almost exceeds the number of regular runners. Like running 26.2 miles wasn’t hard enough, they had to do it while wearing stuff like this in the image below.

Cheese heads are always popular!

Some runners wear outrageous costumes that are more than just fancy dresses. There are people that managed to enter the Guinness’ Book of Records for wearing really heavy costumes, for example the five stones and 11ft of Anthony Nolan Trust superhero costume. Can you imagine yourself pulling this off? I can’t even imagine myself overcoming the race let alone finishing the race with stones and 11ft costume.

Here are the greatest, wildest and craziest outfits from this year NYC Marathon. I really admire these people for managing to overcome 26.2 miles with these ridiculous outfits.

If you’re still not a zombie, you should be running for your life instead of updating your status, and if you’re a zombie and are feasting on someone’s brains, you should show some respect and at least wait till you’re done! Where are your manners?

You can see the moment when the groom realizes he is probably making the biggest mistake in his life for marrying this woman, but somehow he feels it is too late to quit now. He’ll probably let her know how he feels through Facebook by commenting on her wedding status.

10. While You’re in Bathroom

For whatever reason you’re in the bathroom and whatever you’re doing, believe me, nobody wants to read about it on your Facebook page. I know it sounds unbelievable, but that is the truth. No one cares. Therefor, please, stop it.

Tell me, is it just me or are the social networks taking over our whole lives? It sure looks so, at least if judging by these ten extreme cases. It’s like the real life serves just as subtext for the more perfect life they live in the virtual reality. Networks like Facebook, My Space and others give us the opportunity to create a better version of ourselves and make an overall better impression. That is because we can carefully plan every detail of our presentation, share only the photos in which we look good, show only those of our attributes that we think are good enough for others to see, and those that aren’t we simply pass over.

A 29 year old graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in illustration, Rob Dobi, apparently also gave this idea some thought and made a project named Your Scene Sucks, where he criticizes these cliches and these “template” people (whom he calls scenesters, according to Urban Dictionary, scenester is a person who tries very hard to fit the stereotype of a certain scene; often having to do with a specific genre of music).

It makes me wonder why don’t these people try wearing something different, something that suits just them, that says something about who they are and has nothing to do with current trends.

These are the most common scenesters these days and what are their musts and what their outfits inevitably include. It must be really difficult living with such low self esteem and having to follow each and every stupid trend. I almost feel sorry for them.

But, then again no… Just one look at the images below representing neotrash/redneck makes me wanna punch him in the face with those bedazzled spikes on his vest.

Or this guy! I can already imagine him giving some crappy lecture and telling about his deep life changing experience that is now supposed to inspire the unfortunate listeners.

On May 19, 1962, she attended the early birthday celebration of President John F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden, at the suggestion of Kennedy’s brother-in-law, actor Peter Lawford. It is only normal to start with Angelina Jolie’s tattoos, considering the fact that she is one of the most tattooed celebrity in the world and that she has a large number of beautifully-designed and unusual tattoos including:

• The Tennessee Williams quote, “A prayer for the wild at heart, kept in cages” on her left forearm
• An Arabic phrase meaning “strength of will” on her right forearm

• A beautiful Asian tiger and dragon on her lower back

Jolie is no stranger to tattoo removal, as well, with seven tattoos being either reinked or covered using laser tattoo removal. A left arm tattoo in honor of her ex-husband, Billy Bob Thornton, has since been removed and reinked with the longitude and latitude coordinates where she adopted or gave birth to her four children (Maddox, Zahara, Pax, and Shilo, respectively). The Japanese symbol for death, on her left shoulder, is now a prayer of Buddhist Sanskrit symbols for her son Maddox.

Johnny Deep, Angelina’s partner in their latest mutual movie The Tourist, is also known as one of Hollywood’s most avid tattoo collector because of the numerous tattoo designs holding special significance.

In Pirates, Depp’s played Captain Jack Sparrow, a role which required a fake tattoo on his right forearm: a swallow over a sunset with “Jack” tattooed underneath. He liked the tattoo so much that he had it permanently tattooed on his arm after shooting was completed. He has said that the tattoo honors his son Jack. The actor, who is part Cherokee, also has a Cherokee Indian tattoo on his upper right arm.

Like many tattoo enthusiasts, Johnny Depp has had one of his tattoos modified. His “Winona forever” tattoo, which he had tattooed on his upper right arm while engaged to actress Winona Ryder, has since been partially removed. It now reads “Wino forever.”

3. Britney Spears

The controversial pop singer has a large number of tattoos, including Hebrew characters on the back of her neck, a butterfly and a vine on her left foot, the Chinese symbol for “mystery” near her navel, and a pair of pink dice on her left forearm (which match a pair of blue dice on Kevin Federline’s right forearm).

Britney’s most prominent tattoo is this six-inch fairy on her lower back. The fairy represents fate, and the unpredictable gifts and disappointments that destiny often brings our way. An appropriate tattoo design, since the Oops!…I Did It Again songstress has certainly had her share of both.

4. Orlando Bloom

The Pirates of the Carribean star has a sun tattoo design on the left side of his stomach, below his navel. More intriguing, however, is the tattoo design on his right wrist. Based on the Elvish word for “The Nine,” the wrist tattoo is a reference to the nine actors who made up the Fellowship of the Ring in The Lord of the Rings movies. All nine actors received the same tattoo, except for John Rhys-Davies, who played Gimli the Dwarf (he sent his stunt double to receive the tattoo instead).

5. Pamela Anderson

Long an Internet favorite, Pam Anderson has several tattoos on her back, finger, and forearm. The tattoo she is most known for, of course, is the barbwire design on her left arm. Though the barbwire design originally came out of prison culture, the “Barb Wire” star singlehandedly popularized it for our generation. This Baywatch cutie and former Playboy Playmate has probably done more to advance tattoo culture than her ex-husband, Tommy Lee!

6. David Beckham

The famous British football (soccer) midfielder sports some serious ink! His three children (Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz) are represented on his back, and in the three cherubs on the inside of his biceps. In his autobiography, David Beckham: My Side, he explains, “I like the feeling that [my children] are with me even when I’m away from home … my dad had three tattoos of his own and so the idea has been with me since I was a kid.”

More recently, the husband of Spice Girl and fellow tattoo enthusiast Victoria Beckham has adorned his right arm with a dense tattoo that includes a guardian angel engulfed in flames. The tattoo, which reportedly took six hours to complete, also include words from a Roman poem, translated as: “Let them hate as long as they fear.”

Now, after saying all that and agreeing that there’s nothing weird with having rock musicians, movie stars, sportsmen and others covered in ink, let’s have a look at some people who’s decision of having a tattoo caused a few raised eyebrows, like famous politicians and historical figures.

7. Winston Churchill

Sir Winston proudly sported an anchor tattoo on his right arm. And why not? His mother, Jennie Churchill, had a snake tattoo encircling her wrist.

8. Princess Stephanie of Monaco

I’m not even gonna get into it how mainstream tattooing has become when even royalties are digging it and doing it! Princess Stephanie may hold the record for royalty with the most body art. She has flowers, dolphins, and text inked all over her body. Her mother lovingly calls her the “wild child.”

9. John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Jr.

Some may be surprised to know that “America’s Son,” the late JFK Jr., was tattooed twice. His first and more rebellious tattoo was a dagger on his right bicep. Then, in the summer of 1991, he had a Shamrock design done on his foot.

10. Tokidoki Barbie

Recently Barbie designed by the L.A.-based Tokidoki brand was released with a pale pink bob, stacked bracelets, an annoyed-looking pet named Bastardino (seriously) and, oh yeah, a ton of tattoos on her neck and shoulders. They say the doll was made only for adult collectors, but still this didn’t prevent the rage outburst of angry parents all over US.

Apparently, the question isn’t anymore Guess Who’s Inked, but Guess Who’s Not. It is almost like having a tattoo doesn’t really mean anything anymore. But, then how come there are about half a million searches for celebrity tattoo online? Is ink on skin became the mini skirts of 60s’? It’s something that everybody is talking about and it wore out, but still there are shy and suppressed people that wish they had courage to do it? Well, for all those shy people out there, I hope this tattoo gallery of celebs will help. And, after all, if Churchill and J.F.K did it, why wouldn’t you?

When we zoom out a bit…

Julian Sunmi Park and Benjamin Jinsuk Lee got married and opted to take some of the coolest, dorkiest wedding photos possible. I like this because it’s a fun way to assert your nerdiness at your wedding without dressing up like a Klingon. It’s a perfect compromise!

Limited by typecasting, Monroe studied at the Actors Studio to broaden her range, and her dramatic performance in Bus Stop (1956) was hailed by critics, and she received a Golden Globe nomination.

The final years of Monroe’s life were marked by illness, personal problems, and a reputation for being unreliable and difficult to work with. The circumstances of her death, from an overdose of barbiturates, have been the subject of conjecture. Though officially classified as a “probable suicide”, the possibility of an accidental overdose, as well as the possibility of homicide, have not been ruled out. In 1999, Monroe was ranked as the sixth greatest female star of all time by the American Film Institute. In the years and decades following her death, Monroe has often been cited as a pop and cultural icon as well as an eminent American sex symbol.

Audrey Hepburn (born Audrey Kathleen Ruston; 4 May 1929 – 20 January 1993) was a British actress and humanitarian. Redefining glamour with “elfin” features and a waif-like figure that inspired designs by Hubert de Givenchy, she was inducted in the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame, and ranked, by the American Film Institute, as the third greatest female screen legend in the history of American cinema.

9. Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda (born Lady Jayne Seymour Fonda; December 21, 1937) is an American actress, writer, political activist, former fashion model, and fitness guru. She rose to fame in the 1960s with films such as Barbarella and Cat Ballou. She has won two Academy Awards and received several other movie awards and nominations during more than 50 years as an actress. After 15 years of retirement she returned to film in 2005 with Monster in Law, followed by Georgia Rule two years later. She also produced and starred in over 20 exercise videos released between 1982 and 1995, and once again in 2010.

Farrah Fawcett (February 2, 1947 – June 25, 2009) was an American actress and artist. Diana Ernestine Earle Ross (born March 26, 1944) is an American singer and actress. Ross was lead singer of the Motown group The Supremes during the 1960s. After leaving the group in 1970, Ross began a solo career that included successful ventures into film and Broadway. She received a Best Actress Academy Award nomination for her role as Billie Holiday in Lady Sings the Blues (1972), for which she won a Golden Globe award. She won several American Music Awards, garnered twelve Grammy Award nominations, and won a Tony Award for her one-woman show, An Evening with Diana Ross, in 1977.

Faye Dunaway (born January 14, 1941) is an American actress. Dunaway won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Network (1976) after receiving previous nominations for the critically acclaimed films Bonnie and Clyde (1967) and Chinatown (1974). She has starred in a variety of films, including The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), The Towering Inferno (1974), Three Days of the Condor (1975), and Mommie Dearest (1981).

Pamela Suzette “Pam” Grier (born May 26, 1949) is an American actress. She became famous in the early 1970s, after starring in a string of moderately successful women in prison and blaxploitation films such as 1974′s Foxy Brown. Her career was revitalized in 1997 after her appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s film Jackie Brown. She is one of a few African-American actresses to receive a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.

Lauren Hutton (born November 17, 1943) is an American model and actress. She is best-known for her starring roles in the movies American Gigolo and Lassiter, and also for her fashion modeling career.

Michelle Marie Pfeiffer (born April 29, 1958) is an American actress.
