The most expensive paintings

This is a list of the highest known prices paid for paintings. Since that time sales of the most valuable paintings have usually been made at auctions, though that had by no means always been the case before, and the list below still shows some “private sales”, including the three most expensive. The current record price was paid for a work from No. 5, 1948 by Jackson Pollock sold at US$140 million in 2006, (approx. $150.6 million in CPI-adjusted 2010 US dollars)

Moving portraits by Mehmet Akin

Mehmet Akin is doctor/photographer from Turkey, Izmir. He’s 50 years old and as I said before, taking photos isn’t his first vocation, but nevertheless he does it amazingly well. His basic muse and inspiration is his homeland, Turkey with its breathtaking landscapes and its wonderful people. Here you can have a look at some samples of the portraits that he has taken of old people in his country. They are very moving and you can see the mark of time on their faces. It’s almost like every face is telling his own story and testifying that human destiny (kismet) is a thing greater than human himself.

Amazing movie illustrations

These amazing movie illustrations are made by Justin Reed, an artist that focuses heavily on the movies and pop culture in creating his work. Here are some of his best illustrations of the most classic films in history and characters that made a difference and probably affected the lives of everybody in some small part. His work is making new art from another art, simply by changing the means of expression. I hope you’ll like it.

Home made loony art

This reminds me of the movie “Space Jam” when cartoon characters say: “We’re not loony enough?” and then start pooling out all sorts of crazy stuff and cool jokes just to show how insane they are. Well, this artwork is sort of like that. It seems to me like someone has gone a bit mad about something in his own home and decided to turn his craziness into art, because we all know how mental artists are. And you know what? It looks like a great fun. I might try this out! icon smile

Slithering art of Guido Mocafico

Guido Mocafico‘s art work gives you chills, but still you can’t deny that it looks quite impressive and beautiful. Besides his serpent work, which is the most popular, this artist also likes clock mechanisms, nature mort, medusa, and other scary animals such as spiders. I’m not sure why is it like that, but it’s like the author is trying to scare us and impress us at the same time. Even his nature mort or the so called still-life, is somewhat spooky. He is presenting images of dead fish, a rabbit that is about to be striped, etc. He makes us watch the real life without any make up. It might be a bit frightening and repulsive at the beginning, but then you get used to it and accept the nature as it is, raw and powerful.

India or Utopia

Usually when we go on a trip or travel to some well know touristic destination, we all take somewhat the same photos. But it is the true artist who manages to see beyond the obvious and catch existing beauty that lies within. These photos of India look like they have been taken by the hand of an optimist, or simply someone who is able to look a bit deeper. I wish we could use photoshop in the real life to get rid of the poverty, illness, and all the problems that we have and that we live with today. But, it remains the privilege of a photographer.

Weapon art

Have a look at these interesting and original art works that are made not by a paint brush, or a pencil, but by weapons. It’s nice to see that not all weapons are used to kill people, but some of them are used to create art. It’s a pretty neat idea, and it sends a beautiful massage. It would be great if all guns could be used only this way and in this purpose.

Amazing sculptures made out of car parts

Those sculptures are made by Austrian Artist James Corbett, he creates them by using old car parts taken from scrap yards. Then he sells his creations for thousands of pounds! If that isn’t art I don’t know what is… icon smile It’s a nice a supple way of reminding people to recycle and take care of their waste. With all companies going green almost everything is in some part made out of garbage. So, why should modern art be any different?
It’s really an amazing work, take a look!

Smoky art

Have a look at this interesting new sort of art. It is the smoke art. Abstract photography is nothing new, and people constantly come up with new — or re-invent old — versions of photography techniques. One of the ones that is going like wild-fire (excuse the pun) around the interwebs at the moment is the art of photographing colored smoke. In case you’d like to try it out yourself, here are a few useful tips on how it’s done.

Beautiful pecil drawings

I always admired portraits, and I even tried a few times to draw some sketches of my family members. They were OK but not as nearly as these below. These pencil portraits of celebrities are absolutely amazing and so real looking. For some of these I firstly thought they were photography, but they aren’t. I would really like to meet the author of this work. It’s really worth of every admiration. I hope you’ll like them too the way that I did. Enjoy!
